3 Guitar samples. Same amp. Which sounds best to you?

2nd one for me just smooth almost compressed slightly, least fav the single coil sounding third sample. I’ll add I prefer to judge based on clean sounds. Anytime clipping is introduced it really starts to make the listening process less transparent. Just my .002

Hard To Pick Which Pickups Sound Best In A Situation Like This As Presented. Here Is Why Based On Your Description From My Perspective

1. It Is Hard To Pick A Pickup I Like Best When Different Guitars Are Being Used With The Different Pickups To Come To A Decision.

2. Not Having A Purely Clean/Dry Sound Can Somewhat Play Tricks On Your Decision. (Good Or Bad).Decision Should Be Made Based Off What You Play So If Wet And Gain r Clean Is Your Thing That Is Good But You Also Need To Hear Things In A Pure Senst As Well To Get The Full Picture IMO.

3. Not Hearing The Same Part In Very Short Back To Back To Back Examples Multiple Times Allows The Listener To Somewhat Forget What They Have Heard After Listening A Bit.

I Say None Of This To Sound Or Be Harsh In Any Way. :) Thank You For Sharing The Clips And For Taking The Time To Make Them, Etc.

Of The Examples Provided I Leaned Towards #2

I liked #1, was warm and full. Didn’t like number 2, brittle and harsh at times. Number three was ok, second to number 1.

To me number 1 sounded like a neck pickup or a hollowbody, and the others sounded like bridge pups.

But without lots of gain what do I know…….😎

All 3 are necks. There's one hollowbody and 2 semi-hollows in the clip (not necessarily in that order)

Hey everyone,

Thanks for taking the time to listen. The guitars were:

1) 2016 Epiphone Les Paul Florentine Pro - Probuckers (humbuckers)
2) 2020 Squier Classic Vibe Starcaster - "Fender Designed Wide Range" Humbuckers
3) 2022 PRS SE Hollowbody II PIezo - 58/15 "S" Humbuckers

I liked #3, sounded like a hollow or semi hollow tone to me… and whaddya know, it is! The softer attack fit the playing well.

Thanks for the comment, but are you saying you can't have a preference to which sample sounds best to your ears? I'm not asking for you tell me which pickups are the best, just which sound most pleasing to your ear in this specific situation.

As for the sound, I feel the first guitar (#1) has the most definition and clarity, The second (#2) is more balanced, warm, and has noticeable mid-range, The third (#3) seems more aggressive, with an emphasis on the highs, I'd personally go with the pickups on #2 — best balance overall.PS.Remember, the amp settings can also affect the subtle changes in tone( Official PRS Guitars Forum )( Official PRS Guitars Forum). 👹

I Get What You Are Saying. My Point Regarding The Clips Is It Is Difficult To Really Compare Without The Samples Being Short And Back To Back. The Listener Can Quickly Forget In That Minute Of Time And By The Time You Hear Three Samples There Are Lost Nuances Along The Way. I Know It Sounds Silly But It Is The Truth. I Liked A Lot Of All 3 For Various Things. Could My Mood Shift My Initial Choice? Perhaps. Would My Initial Choice Shift If Each Clip Was 3 Identical Chords Without Effects And All 3 Samples Wrapped Up In 10 Seconds Total? Perhaps.

It Is Possible I May Be Too Detailed In My Approaches But They Have Served Me Well Over The Years.

Thanks and fair enough

I appreciate the time you took to record but I'd pick none. I don't say that mean or a knock on your playing. It's the effects aspect. Blame the sound guy. Oh wait.. 🤣

But I'd say 1, 3, 2. Two might be ranked higher but there was a part that just didn't work.
