anyone have thoughts on a Paul's guitar with a middle narrowfield added being a good equivalent to the 20th aniv ps guitars? Anyone tried it yet?

Great idea! But you'd still be missing details like the thicker mahogany body, the 24.594 scale length, etc.

Still, I'll bet the PTC could turn a Paul's into a pretty lively approximation.

I was having the same thoughts, but sending the guitar back and forth from Europe, I don't know... and I don't wanna ask for a quotation just for curiosity.

Anyway, is the 20th anniv. even thicker? I think Paul's is already McCarty thickness

I am looking for the right price on a Paul's guitar first. Like justmund said "do it". I have five narrowfield pickups with rings sitting around and the luthier experience to convert it myself. I think it would be awesome but would rather have a five way switch than the 3 way toggle and push pulls. I will keep everyone updated if i find a Paul's to modify. As most of you understand I have to get the guitar to pass the wife's blessing first.

There is a nice yellow tiger in in mylespaul.com but too pricy for me to justify. JR

I also have a siggy that had thought about doing this to, but three pickups of different sizes would look too funny to me. The two smaller 408's would give better tones in my opinion. Thoughts?

I was just looking at a PS 20th and thinking to myself "wouldn't it be cool if it came with a stoptail?"

Probably so, but...

You'd be missing out on this Gen III bridge with locking saddles that really is a brilliant piece of gear. I'm not kidding when I say it sustains longer than any guitar I have ever owned, the lone exception being the McCarty Singlecut, where it seems to be about on par.

Why are you referring to HOTG as "the McCarty Singlecut"?

I figure the hardware won't be the same but thought I would try to get the next best thing. I am not a trem type of guy so the trem is not too important. I like stop tails.

Back OT... @Rapdog you have 5 NFs sitting around? I wish I knew that 6 months ago! Long story to be elaborated on soon ;)

I'm with you on the aesthetic of a NF in the middle of a 408/Sig Ltd, would look a bit unbalanced with the different radius corners and PU widths.

That said, if you can't deal with a 3-way toggle + push-pull, and want 2 x narrow 408s and a 5-way blade, there's no options.

There's going to be a compromise somewhere...

I have 5 sitting around but am thinking of using 2-3 in a new build j have started. Just have too much time currently. African mahogany back quilted top and rosewood neck with ebony board. I just need to make more time. The other two i traded for a few months ago. Haven't been able to play any of them yet so don't know if j like them yet.

Eh, I'm already missing out on a lot! Can't complain though.

I've been thinking a Paul's with a single 513 in the middle would be a cool way to go. The PS 20th is proving that a NF works well, too!

You can't get the blade on the Paul's, but there are plenty of options for switching. Push/pull to turn the middle pup on/off is an obvious choice, but the trade off is you won't have middle alone. You could use a five-way rotary to mimic the regular five-way switching.
