Hey guys!

I recently purchased a PRS Silver sky SE from Zedem (canadian music store chain). I had had a PRS mira SE and I just could not bond with it so I sold it and got the silver skye se.

Soon as it arrived it looked great but a terrible setup. It had way too much relief, the saddle radius was way off and the intonation was all sharp. No sharp fret ends, neck feels great. The final issue is frets. I took it to my luthier as i didnt want to try and mess with frets. He informed me there was 3 high frets and quite a few needed to be re profiled. He will be setting the saddles up properly and set the relief. The nut seems well cut.

This is not acceptable for a guitar over $1000 CAD. Id have squiers that were set up better from the factory. Its not worth it for me to ship the guitar back to Quebec from Cape Breton. Will cost me less for the luthier to fix it than it would to ship it back.

I feel like PRS should do something about this, maybe reimburse me for the work I had done, as they pride themselves on great setups from the factory. The relief is no big deal but the rest is.

What do you guys think?

Similar story with my SE Silver Sky. Action sky high, saddles all over the place, neck relief terribly bowed. Several raised frets. It’s taken a lot of fettling to get right. I can do a level and crown myself - have all the tools and the know-how to achieve this.

Once I’d set it up to my liking it plays really nicely, but I needed to replace the saddle screws as they were sticking out too much.

Action on low E is now 1.5mm
Action on high E is now 1.1mm
Neck relief is 0.18mm at the 8th

Did you keep the guitar past Zedem's return window cutoff date per their return policy? If not, it seems you're saying Zedem's policy is to charge the buyer for the cost of return shipping on a guitar that has substantiated quality issues, in exchange for replacement by another of the same model? Sorry, that doesn't sound right. And IF that truly is their policy, I wouldn't have bought from them in the first place.

I recently bought 2 SE SS's, from 2 different dealers. Both were 2023 models, being offered at insanely good discounts (yes, brand new, not open box, not floor demos). I basically got 2 for slightly more than the MSRP of 1. Both dealers said they needed to clear out old stock, makes me wonder if there's a semi-significant update to the model coming later this year.
Anyhow, both of them were the opposite of what you guys experienced. The setups were generally fine. I like a lower action and made my own adjustments but they were both very playable out of the box

This was my only issue, the saddle screws were quite high, especially after I dropped the action. A set of M3 x 6 were all I needed, and the new screws do their job while actually sitting at or below the level of the saddle

Sorry to hear you had such different quality, hopefully your dealers were able to make it right for you!

Buying blindly online means there is a chance of getting that dud. So it is prudent to buy from a seller with an excellent return policy.

Did you return your faulty guitar for a replacement, or full refund?

The issues I have had with some online retailers is the "sale " guitars are often returns and just resold without the needed fixes , Neck relief is no big deal it happens so I don't count that the radius and intonation being off is likely ( IMHO ) a customer or tech trying badly to adjust the guitar.
As far as the Fretwork on your SE from what I have seen most budget guitars and benefit greatly from a pro set up, and to be honest I set up all my guitars to my specs , I don't expect them to be perfect , I do expect them to be made to be perfect tho.
Hit up the retailer for a discount to cover your setup costs and enjoy the guitar is what I would do.
