I pulled the pickup on the one I just landed last night and saw the word "experience" handwritten in the pocket.
I did a search and saw that they were part of the PRS Experience that year and only were on order from September 22 to October 15. I was curious if that was the only time they were ever available and how many were actually produced.

I realize this thread is almost 8 years old, but since I just purchased a 2011 Swamp Ash Studio, I have the exact same questions….anybody out there know???

Thanks, Gents….I’m just looking for a little history on this new (to me) toy. I have no intent on selling it as it really is a great sounding, looking and playing guitar. The more I get into PRS, the more fascinated I am about the company’s history.…My kids can worry about resale value after I check out!

Yeah, I rarely see them for sale….either they only made a few or they are just great instruments no one wants to part with. Probably both!

Probably right! I’m seriously in the market for one - but the only one available for sale at the moment is a little out of my budget

Btw - care to share some pics of yours? That looks like a beauty!

This is a 2012 Experience Swamp Ash Studio. They made 40 multi-foils, 8 each of 5 colors. This is desert foil. I no longer own it, as the neck gave me cramps after a set. (I like the BEEF). What a cool guitar, resonated like a grand piano. From the info I gathered, 6 of the 8 in this finish went to Japan immediately. This one was in a GC in Cincinnati, unsold for 2 years! I happened to be in there on a 70% off weekend, so the price was down out of the stratosphere. Looks crazy cool under stage lights. Hans has the other one. When I sold this one it went to Jersey.

Oh I'd own that all day long!!!

I have some pickups labeled experience but I don't remember what year.

These are experience 2012 pickups.

Never knew they labeled pickups that way?

I have a 2011 natural finish Swamp Ash Studio in new condition. It took me a year to find it. What an excellent sounding guitar.
Then I recently found a 2012 Studio 22, (only made 3 years from 2011 to 2013), That took almost a year to find. Right now, there are no SAS for sale and 1 Studio 22. Though they are similar in specs, the swamp ash makes the SAS sound a little different than the studio 22.
With that said, since they are so close, I'm selling the Swamp Ash Studio and am looking for a Santana or Santana II.

I remember seeing the "Experience" label on a PRS guitar I had a while back, and it was tied to a special run they did for the PRS Experience event. That specific release only happened between September 22 and October 15 that year, and it was pretty limited. From what I gathered, only a few hundred of those were made, but they don't really confirm exact numbers. If you’ve got one, it's a nice find since they don’t pop up too often.

Yeah, there’s not a ton of them out there. I wish I would’ve picked one of the foil ones up experience. I had this thing at the time that I had to see the swamp ash figure. Also it didn’t fit what I was doing. Should’ve got one anyway.
