2 x Amp = x

My dealer has one of the first 20 with the NOS tubes, so of course I'm gonna do it! I'd be foolish not to, right? ;)

Do it Les!! I have one with the NOS tubes that I picked up at this years Experience and it sounds unbelievable!! I also have my HXDA, that I bought because of you, that I also Love. They seem to be a great pairing for me, and allow me to get several different types of tones out of each.
I believe you will be very happy with it and I am certain you will be able to put to work in the studio!

Done deal already, should see it Friday, barring crazy weather conditions. I'm very encouraged that you're finding that both amps compliment each other!

What cab are you using with it?

I'm planning to get the DG cab soon, but will use it with what I have temporarily.

I predict that you'll love it Les! I don't have the DG cab, and am sort of unclear as to what's different about it in comparison with the regular CAD 2x12s with V30s. The blurb says that it's a modified physical construction, but I'm not sure what that means and how different it would sound. I play it through my PRS 2x12 at home and through a TwoRock 2x12 live (mainly because it's a decent sounding cab and it's made to be played vertically but throw out sound in a wider horizontal pattern, which is nice live and un-mic'd....) but side by side I like the PRS cab with it better...

David Grissom and Doug Sewell described the cabinets during a presentation at the PRS Experience last September. They said the regular 2x12 PRS cabinet has an internal baffle between the speakers. The DG cabinet does not have this baffle.

I am sure you are right! Plus, I don't have anything like it in the studio; I had a 4 x EL84 Roccaforte Rockie for a long time (great little amp BTW), but my son needed it for his studio in LA, so it's with him now.

So I'm really excited that this is coming!

Here's a pic of the back of the DG cab, and it has two oval cutouts that are similar to the one oval cutout in a TR cab (great cab, BTW, had one when I had my last TR).

The cutouts are arranged one behind each speaker. In a typical PRS touch, the cutouts are covered in the same fabric as the grille cloth. The dual porting of this cab is unique to the PRS line, as the other 2x12s are closed back:

The cab I have in the studio right now is a stock Mesa 212 Recto cab, closed back, 2 x V30s. I record with it on an Isoacoustics stand that tilts the cab back slightly, and raises it a few inches off the floor. It records really well this way, sounds a lot better with more clarity throughout its range, fewer structure-borne room resonances, and yada yada,

I'm told the DG cab really brings out the best in the DG amp, and that makes sense. I can make do with my Mesa cab for a while, and then add the cab in the very near future (I don't have a PRS cab anyway, so it'll be great to get one! :top:

That's a key statement. When you hear a demo that makes you go, "hmm...", you need to take the cab into consideration or you'll be scratching your head wondering what's missing. And IMO, the cab choice has always been a key component in the DG sound regardless of amp...25th anni, HX/DA, or Super Dallas. I found the pine 2x12 to be a secret ingredient and think you'll agree with your new amp/cab.

No doubt.

I just have to be careful with the studio budget, so one at a time is something I'll simply live with.

Les, I have the standard 2X12 PRS cab paired with my HXDA and I do also have the DG 2X12 cab with my DG 30 that I was telling you about with the NOS tubes in it. Both cabs sound completly different from one another. I do feel like the DG 30 sounds much better (can't really describe it better than that) with the DG cab than it does with my standard PRS cab. I know the lack of baffles and the rear porting have a lot to do with it. I am sure your Mesa cab will sound great with it, but if your studio budget allows at some point I would give the DG cab a try.

Oh, I've definitely decided to get it. Just a matter of when.

You'll have to find twice as much LV or Gucci fabric, then...
Uh oh. Back to the parking lot, Serg.

Wheres that amp, Les? I'll have my Klon(e) kit built before that DG thing makes an appearance! I'm running out of ways to keep me occupied. You must be going nuts! :D

Ha! You bet I am, but thankfully I am working on an ad project that doesn't involve guitars for the moment, so at least there's that.

It was delayed by the storm out East. They're now saying Monday.

Can NOT wait to hear what comes of this... Les, you're my hero!!!

Thanks for the vote of confidence in my...shopping skills!!

Well, what I'm hoping for is that the amp will be the equal of the HXDA, so I have two different, but great, amps to work with. That's actually more than a hope, it's kinda my expectation based on how well PRS is doing with amps these days.

I guess I'll find out more tomorrow. And of course, the usual report to follow. ;)

Gawd, this "out for delivery" thing is just torture, especially after last week's weather delay.

Tick.........................tock........................tick..........................................tock......................................
