i ordered the black 88 from Garrett Park last week and the orange 97 found on CL yeasterday.
The 97 has a regular carve neck just like the 88. I always thought mid 90s- 2012 had w/f or w/t only. In the cavity it says cu24reg. Does that mean regular neck? It feels like one.

That is a great-looking "mature" pair you found there. Nice twofer!

I had a 1997 CE24 that had a regular neck carve...so I suppose it's possible on a CU of the same vintage...

Nice!

AFAIK, the CU24 was always Regular or Wide Thin until the Pattern shapes came in.

Wide Fat was used almost exclusively on the 22 fret models, but there were a couple 24 fret models with that carve (can't remember which at the moment. Artist, maybe?)
