1980s PRS truss rod cover material - black aluminum or plastic?

Good Morning!
Quick question: just picked up a really cool 1991 PRS CE, but it's missing the truss rod cover. I've owned a number of older PRS guitars, but never noticed -
is the original truss rod cover made of black aluminum or black plastic???

I'm pretty sure the USA models were always black anodized brushed aluminum.

In the 80’s and 90’s yes.

In the tumultuous 2000’s they experimented with materials and finishes.

Me being the guy that leaves ‘em off after the first truss rod tweak, I had a pile of ‘em and sent one off to an old member during a Pay It Forward thread.

Not only did I not get a “thank you” I got berated for trying to pass off a fake TRC cover to some poor unsuspecting goober for free because it wasn’t brushed.

The 2 94’s that I have/had both had phenolic plastic TRCs. My 08 Mira has an engraved plastic one. All the rest of mine are the phenolic plastic type.
The only aluminum TRC I have was on a 05 anniversary year guitar. The TRC is all black without the “20th” being in aluminum. They used these on all of the guitars that year that weren’t anniversary package guitars.

I just had to check, and my '91 special has a plastic TRC. I special ordered it, so it never even sat in the store.

I checked my 1987 silver pearl Standard 24 (w/birds!) - and
it has a plastic truss rod cover - guess I'll look for an older
plastic one for this 1991 CE I just picked up.
