Welcome to the forum!

Congrats on the new fiddle!

Awesome wife!

The 58/15LT pick ups are Vintage voiced PAF style pick ups. They are stock on the 594 model. They are a lower output version of the 58/15 pickup. The LT stands for Low Turn, as in less winds. If I recall correctly, the bridge and neck are the same, and read around 7.2k ohms.

Wow! What a surprise gift, that thing is incredible looking! I don't have anything with the 58/15 LT's in it, but played a couple 594's and really liked their tonal character. Bodia's description is pretty dead-on...very vintage and warm in tone.

I'd be interested in seeing how they sound in a Custom 24, being the scale length is a bit different and neck pickup would be in a different position, given the 24 frets.

Congrats on the guitar....no doubt you're going to absolutely love it!

ALL PRS Pick-ups are great so you do not have to worry about that. PRS Pick-ups are also very easy to work out what they are and when they were released. The first number (58, 85, etc) is an indication of the era, the year they are designed to be like - so a 58 means its a Humbucker that is designed to give you a Pick-up that gives you a 58 era vibe and the 85 is a more modern vibe. Paul has said that the 85/15's are the Pick-up he wished he'd had in 85 to launch the company and custom 24 - that's why they are called 85 - the year PRS launched as a company.

The second number (09, 10, 15) relates to the year they launched. In the case of the 58/15 and 85/15 pick-ups, that means they launched in 2015. To me this makes the Pick-ups very easy to understand. It makes sense that the Custom 22/24 both come with the 85/15's as they are modern instrument. The McCarty 594 has the 58/15 LT's because its a much more 'vintage' type guitar. The Silver Sky has JM635 PU's - the JM for John Mayer and the 635 (should be 63.5) means that its like a 63/64 (the .5 meaning halfway between) single coil.

The only other thing to know is what the LT means which is 'Low Turn' and, if you see MT, that stands for Multi-Tap. Its all very logical naming so you know what the Pick-ups are and what to expect. As I said at the start, ALL PRS PU's are great so you are not getting a 'bad' or lower spec, not getting some 'cheap' alternatives to the norm. Someone has specced this on purpose and have gone for something a bit more 'vintage' sounding. These PU's are used in the 594 and Hollowbody ii and both of those guitars are very highly rated on their sound and their clarity - even with gain and not getting muddy. I have a 594 (and HBii) with the 58/15 LT's and they have a wonderful tone. I also have a Custom 24 with 85/15's and love that too. I do think these are hotter but not ridiculously hot which fits well in my collection. I do prefer a lower output Pick-up but as I have a 594, my Custom 24 fits the more modern double humbucker role without crossing into the 594 territory.

The best way to look at all of PRS Pick-ups is different voice/vibe but certainly not a difference in terms of quality or cost. If you see 85/15 'S', the S is are the import version of the US made 85/15.

The 58/15 LT pick-ups are great and really should work well with the Custom 24. The fact yours is not coming with 85/15's as stock is only because someone opted to spec that one out especially with 58/15 LT's to give it a different voice, a different vibe....

Thank you so much! man i actually love the way the pick up names go as well makes it so much easier to understand, so actually i should love these pick ups more for the fact that there going to be more like my burst buckers,

my mom bought me for fathers day a Gibson 2019 60th anniversary 1959 reissue and i love the pick ups in that thing

thank you every one for your comments! i truly appreciate it ill update tomorrow or the next day about how much i like the pick ups

As far as the numbering, I thought that the 58/15 were just 85/15 with covers. Of course the added LT meaning low turns.

Its been mentioned here too and @Shawn@PRS has said there is more differences than just the cover (or lack of in the case of the 85/15's). I don't know why this continues to be perpetuated unless its that 1 post that keeps being quoted and therefore keeps cropping up. I know Paul has said they are the same from a construction purpose - but that could mean that they have the same grade wire wrapped around the same pole pieces with the same Magnet but the way the wrap of the wire and turns could be different to change the way its voiced. I have the 85/15's, 58/15 LT's and 58/15 MT's and they do sound different and I have to take @Shawn@PRS word that there is more difference than just whether its covered or not. He is far more knowledgeable than I am and works at PRS so I am far more inclined to believe him...

Is your family interested in adopting an older middle-aged but well maintained dad-type?? :)

I'll just add that while the 58/15s may approach some of the sounds you get from your LPs, they'll still sound notably different due to the construction differences in the 24 fret platform as well as the pickup designs themselves, and that's a good thing. The different tonal palette and range you'll get from that guitar is amazing, and should spurn on your creativity nicely!

Congratulations, and of course, welcome. I made the change from Lester’s to PRS several years ago. I think that I gained several things. Biggest- they play in tune and stay in tune. Next- there is magic above the 12th fret. 3rd- they’re very clear under high gain, but without the heavy mids of my old custom. I found I could hear every note all the time with my PRS. Once you get used to different ( from your Gibsons) you’ll be able to decide where the Custom 24 falls in your sonic palette. While Ymmv, I went all in. That is a stunning guitar. Play it, enjoy it it, and remember that PRS pickups are like tuning a Ferrari, big changes with small tweaking.

Welcome, and that is a beautiful guitar!

One of the great things about the 58/15s (and most PRS pickups) is that you can actually use the volume and tone controls to shape your sound, instead of just turning them up all the way for everything. Definitely try different volume and tone settings and experiment a little.

The nice thing about having the ability to use the guitar controls to shape your tone is that you can set the amp up a little differently with a PRS, and get good use out of the guitar’s volume control as a way to control gain on the amp. I generally set up the amp with the guitar volume on 5-6 to be the break point between very clean, and a bit of crunch. Roll up for more gain, roll down for more clean. It really works.

The 24 frets and pickup placement give the CU24 a different vibe than your LPs; originally the guitar was designed to live in the world between a Strat and a Les Paul, but honestly, it’s its own thing. I find the CU24 fat in the midrange, where it helps a player cut through a band or a recorded mix. With the 58/15 LTs, you’ll add a nice vintage vibe to the things the CU24 does.

I hope you enjoy the guitar!

Congrats! What a beauty. Striking burst. Finish looks a bit like Mozzi's avatar guitar
