Old SC 245 owners, what are the pickups like?

Not even close. I remember playing Gibson Vs and Explorers in the late 90s a lot at shops, they all had 496R and 500T combos, those pups were metal af. The SC 245s are nowhere near that output or tone, they sound like overwound SD '59s to me, but with just a little less mid, maybe slightly less...

    The finish on US PRSes?

    I have a 2004 McCarty and a 2007 SC 245.

    The finish on US PRSes?

Sorry if this is a super uninformed question, but my SC 245 and McCarty are the only US made guitars I have, and neither of them feel like the far East guitars, which all have poly finishes. I assumed the McCarty was nitrocellulose finish when I first touched it, but I couldn't be sure without a...

Volume knob turns just grazing it options?

That is exactly what I did with my 2004 McCarty. The volume knob placement is fine, unless it has frictionless turns, like mine does. Now it's just always on 10, and I'm fine with that.

Old SC 245 owners, what are the pickups like?

After I restrung it and cleaned it up yesterday, it was apparent that they weren't McCartys. The SC 245s have less mids, more highs, and a touch more output. I suspected they might be A2s or A5s based on that. Also the spacing on the bridge's pole pieces aren't any different from the neck's...

Old SC 245 owners, what are the pickups like?

Is there a single guitarist in the world who makes at least enough to get by who only owns a single guitar? If you can find him or her, you can probably find a unicorn. Nah, I like the SC 245s, they sound great. At some point it'd be nice to get 2 newer McCartys 594s, one with 58/15s and the...

Old SC 245 owners, what are the pickups like?

Update time. Well, the Christmas spirit broke me down and now I have an SC 245 from 2007. One thing the owner didn't mention and the headstock pics didn't show is that it's a 10 top. That was a nice bonus to see when I opened it up. The pics didn't do the top justice. I definitely won't be...

Old SC 245 owners, what are the pickups like?

That last part is key. PAF pickups sound great on channel 3 of a Mesa Mark IVa amp. With pickups today, output isn't nearly as important as tone. Any even kinda remotely modern high gain amp can get metal out of strat pickups, but to get a classic rock tone out of a JMP using EMG 81s is damn...

Old SC 245 owners, what are the pickups like?

No, but I'd still like to know, and it would alleviate some anxiety if I purchase the guitar. A larger purchase always has me sweating, even tho 6 months later I don't even think about or care about the money spent on an item like this which I love and use all the time.

Old SC 245 owners, what are the pickups like?

I went searching for this topic, but couldn't seem to find anything on the pickups specifically. Any owners of a 2000s era SC245 in here? What were those pickups like? I ask because I'm considering buying a used one and would like to know ahead of time what they're like. Any other pickups on the...

    NGD...and need some help.

Seriously, this guy should just buy a lottery ticket with random numbers, he's sure to win at this point. Good God, just get a basic set of Duncan '59s for like $145, a tusq nut for 20, and he then has a $2200 guitar, and that, I believe, is on the lower end of the estimations. Hell, he could...

Where to find more info about the Core Starla?

Well how much did core Starlas go for at which years? $1700 for a McCarty from the '00s, for example, would be a decent deal. Not exceptional, but on the better end of average currently.

    Need More Validation?

IMPLYING PRS players are anywhere near the sub-pondscum level of doctors and lawyers and Hollywood producers. I know it's controversial, but I'm just gonna say it: I'm an anti-dentite. Jerry was right.

I saw the pics before reading that. Holy Jesus, they may as well have just given it to you. Good God, man, you got a great deal.

After-market pickups similar to the older McCartys?

As far as A4s and 9k goes, yeah, I've seen the various spec sheets of PRS pickups, but just because one is 9k and has an A4 doesn't mean it's gonna sound the same. Variables in guitar parts are a blessing and a curse.

    SE Mods

I was considering that, but then they still wouldn't have nickel covers for vanity. Also the windings wouldn't be matched to the magnet in specific ways which manufacturers like to do and it'd probably wind up (no pun intended) being darker than a less wound pickup. I also don't really care if I...

    SE Mods

I mean, if that's what you want, but on a modern metal amp (or even one from 1984 like a Mark IIC+) you're not going to be cranking the gain/s all the way. I've found that the extra 25-40% of output you get from a high output pickup is wholly unnecessary. Having said that, I still love the SD...

After-market pickups similar to the older McCartys?

Yup, they sure have. I paid $1350 including shipping for a 2004 about 9 months ago, a guitar like that will go for at least $1700 now, and that's only if you're patient enough to wait for a deal. I saw a honeyburst McCarty from 2002 which looked absolutely cherry on Guitar Center not 4 months...

I don't need validation for liking any guitar, but that was a fun video nonetheless.

I have ceramics and A5s in other guitars, and want something different. Slash, EVH, Billy Gibbons, Bonamassa, and tons of others use A2 magnet pickups. Also those other magnets are typically in higher-gain pickups, especially ceramic.
