Thanks! I didn’t do the original rewire, shoulda got a pic.
Anyone know what the extra capacitors do exactly? I mean, I know what capacitors do generally but what’s the specific application in this case? Seems extra to me.
Does anyone have a detailed diagram for a McCarty 594?
After an adventurous rewiring experiment (Gretsch wiring with independent volumes and a master volume) I’ve simply reworded or with basic modern LP wiring, but that means I’m missing both the coil taps (which I don’t mind doing without) and...
The JB with screw coil towards the bridge and active when split is the best split sound a man can get for a bridge humbucker. I have a covered JB/Jazz set in my Warmoth Soloist where position 2 defaults to that sound and it's great.
I put that same set in the PRS however and as would be...
I think this may be the way to go. I love the custom for fast riffage but the hotness of it makes less distorted sounds overly honky and compressed. The hybrid might give me the speed and punch I need while retaining a more open PAF character.
Don’t think I could get over the Holcomb association. Moreover I am more a blues through English heavy metal player with some occasional Opeth than a modern cinderblocks randomly falling out of the back of a truck (djent) player.
Yes I ask a lot of my pickups.
Problem: McCarty Bridge (58/15 LT) lacks punch and sustain. I like the high end cut but it lacks mid punch in the low mids and the upper mids are annoyingly present with distortion. Overall need more output, but still want lots of cut. Want punch mids but not...
Lazarus post here, but I'm wandering because I got a 594 back in July.
The matching pickup thing is in line with the vintage idea the 594 is all about. Pickups were generally matched until the Advent of the aftermarket pickup industry. The matched sets mean the bridge pickup has to be much...
Got a new McCarty 594. Played the bejeezus out of the factory strings as I loathe waste. They had a great slinky feel.
Finally wore em out and replaced with Ernie Ball 10s, my go-to. The feel is markedly different. Not exactly stiffer, but I can't think of a better word for it.
For the...
I'll try a compressor first...I generally see them as personality negators so I haven't explored them much and definitely haven't thought of them with regard to driving an amp.
See original post- If all I wanted was country, there'd be no issue. The question is, is there a unicorn out there that can do what I'm talking about.
Considering Lace's Alumitone line. I met the inventor of these...they work on an entirely different principle than traditional humbucker...
I play a 100w Mesa Boogie 2x12....this sounds dangerous! I've only used this kind of method for a saturated Allman Brothers Duane tone, never for a metal tone. I'll try it. Thank you.
Haven't considered any other specific PRS pickup models. Don't know them, haven't loved any I've heard until these.
Body would mean punch, so yes, midrange. Thus why I say I'm chasing a unicorn here.
I'm either playing through an Ampeg Reverberocket 2x12 reissue for a more classic blues...
