    Avatar Flippers: What's the deal?

I slightly changed mine. I took a couple snapshots of my guitars to replace avatars in a couple other places, so I didn't keep seeing guitars I no longer have, so I thought my PRS could use a new look, too. But I'm tempted to change it to a photo of a couple of my nerdy coffee mugs. Or maybe...

Reverb alert: 25th Anniv. Mira 245 Soapbar, black

Gracious, the price. My regular 2008 Mira is astounding, and I miss the P90 guitar I had, but that's more than triple what my Mira was. 'Twas a different time, though.

    Random. No more or less

Saw Chuchito Valdez and His All-Star Cuban Quartet tonight, the first concert I've attended since the pandemic. It was all kinds of groovy. Good, fun, astoundingly beautiful playing. Instrumentation was piano, violin, bass (an electric upright), and drums. Went through heavy snow to get...

Les can you pls ban my acct

Sorry you are going through that, and I hope you don't let it get to you any further, put it behind you, and come back when life is settled. And peek in for some grooviness and a hello from time to time. If it helps at all, long ago I decided not to let such internet attacks get to...

    Strings poll

Tried quite a few and spent some time using different brands' pure nickels but have reverted to regular D'Addario 10s. Although I recently put Elixir nanowebs on my acoustic and am surprised the coating is no longer apparent.

    All about bicycles

Mine hasn't been an issue. A bit of cleaning and lubricant, on occasion. Mine also has an air valve at the top, under the seat, to adjust pressure. It's needed that once since early 2020. The cable probably broke from my putting it in the car or doing something goofy. I stopped by the bike...

    All about bicycles

Having a dropper kept me from hitting the ground a couple times, especially as I'd been off a bike for a long time. It's also nice even on a rail trail, as I can quickly and confidently stop and get going. The only downside is I've gotten so used to it, when the cable broke last year I...

I don't think he does anymore. A friend's first job was at an ice cream store and served him. He didn't even realize it was Clapton, just that he seemed familiar, until he left and a co-worker said, "Dude! You just sold an ice cream cone to Eric Clapton!"

i don't know if I've been Hebron, except driving past it, but I haven't spent too much time around Columbus. There are still a lot of Bob Evans around, so come on down and get some biscuits. And Ohio car show season is approaching. I spent quite a bit of time in western North Carolina...

Six artists Keith Richards says he hates...

Eh, there's too much focus on things people hate. Too much negativity. Too much attention to statements made to anger or showing ignorance, and not enough on intelligent, insightful statements. I guess another article on his influences and favorite artists wouldn't get as much clicks, but so...

Oh, no, sorry. Lola replied to my statement that I'd like to visit Boulder and asked if I was planning on retiring. At the end I meant that it's unlikely I'd be able to afford retirement there as cost of living is high. I'm in Ohio, which doesn't mountains but is more affordable and is next...

I didn't think of it like that, but kind of? I got fairly irritated and tired of cubicle life after being at a news wire service and, before that, a Big Four accounting firm, and decided there were better ways to spend time. That and sitting at a computer 12 hours a day wasn't helping my...

Oh yeah. He gave me a flier and asked me to put it up in my school's English department, which I did. I want to visit Boulder. Seems like a good place for a middle-aged dude who wants to work on a novel, play music, ride bicycles, and go on hikes.

What is the Best Amp for your PRS Guitar

I haven't played through many amps (although occasionally use modelers when practicing), but the best I've experienced is an independently built amp based on the 5f1 Fender tweed Champ circuit. Not too clean, not too dirty. Edited to add an image of the wiring.

Sounds like a very cool experience. I had a Beatnik era fascination in my youth, too, which contrasted with the neon-colored everything in excess mid to late 1980s. Briefly met Allen Ginsberg, which was odd. The mental image of a super-cool era filled with jazz and poetry, Thelonious Monk and...

That brings back memories. I had a friend, a woman who also appeared to hold the universe together, who loved that book. We had a habit of quoting from "A Perfect Day for Bananafish," which often got confused looks from others. That story is filled with brilliant, odd lines. We also had a...

Becoming half the man I was: my weight loss experience

You're welcome. I'm glad it helps. I had the issue, too, with overwhelming work. I'd also skip lunches then collapse in front of the TV and keep eating. So it helped to eat something during the day--usually bringing something I'd made, typically in a thermos--and doing other things to destress...

Becoming half the man I was: my weight loss experience

I'm remembering a King of the Hill episode where Brownsville Station ("Smoking in the Boys' Room") was doing a reunion tour, and Luann's boyfriend (I think voiced by Tom Petty) camped out for tickets. Luann said something like, "This song is why he took up guitar ... and smoking!"
