At one point he would create a custom backplate for you, I had one made for a 305. I'm sure he might consider doing that for the SS since it's a fairly popular item.
I’ve got both although the 58/15 S pickups are in a 594 thinline. Compared to the TCI 58/15s the S pickups are a little hotter, not quite a clear as the core pickups for sure. They still sound pretty good for stock pickups in a sub $2000 guitar, at least as good or better than your run of the...
Longtime LP player and owned plenty of PRS SCs. I currently have an SC594 and an R9. The SC594 has hotter replacement pickups so I use it for the heavier stuff, the LP has Wizz PAFs. Given all of that, the PRS is definitely more comfortable and has better upper fret access but no so much that...
The binding edges on this feel pretty much the same as my 2 Core 594s, if anything the S2 Thinline might even have more of a curve to it. It's definitely rounded, no sharp edges.
The non-recessed cavity cover must be an S2 thing, since most of the other models have front mounted pickguards/cavities you don't really notice. As far as body thickness it's pretty much the same as my Custom 24 or SAS measuring the body thickness as the neck joint. Since the carve is...
I haven't measured it, but it feels about the same as my Custom 24 Floyd, maybe a tad thicker due to the gloss finish vs. satin on the Cu24. Nothing you can't get used to after a few mins of playing it.
Snagged this earlier this week:
So far so good. No neck dive issues, seems just as balanced as my SAS or CU24 on the strap. The pickups are a little hotter than the 58/15 TCIs, 8.5k in the bridge, 7.9 in the neck.
I’d say it would do fine. My WL SC594 referenced above had a Squabbin 59/09 stock, but I replaced it with a Wagner Godwood mainly because of cosmetics, I wanted matching nickel covers, but the output is almost the same. With either pickup you can get great pinch harmonics with my Friedman amps...
Just noticed the knobs on the stock photo, interesting change. Is that also a bone nut? Surprised they did that on a trem equipped guitar. How well does it stay in tune with whammy use?
I like it so far. The nitro finish and the TCI pickups are a definite upgrade. My only other 594 I currently have is a WL SC594 with an ebony board and non-stock pickups so I'm basing this mostly from memory. I could go either way on the vintage tuners. It stays in tune better than my LP...
