Satin is the way to go, UNLESS you’re the type to baby your guitars to keep them looking new. It will show wear quickly and scratch easily. But the feel, look, and added resonance are worth it.

The original neck pickup had tons more character, and I just don’t think birds look right on a Vela. PRS took away a big part of its “cool factor” IMHO. Plus now everything they make has birds, so if you don’t like bird inlays you’re kinda screwed now.
There’s enough people that like wide thin necks out there, and so few CE22’s out there with wide thin necks, that maybe you can find someone to swap necks with you.
Is this your first semihollow guitar? I wonder if it’s just the inherent quality of the tone of a semihollow vs a solidbody that you’re hearing. To my ears, semihollow guitars have a looser, more open-sounding low end as compared to the tighter-sounding low end of a solidbody.
