Rationale for nitro over cellulose vs. poly?

Back to playing devil’s advocate a bit: I’m seeing ridiculous things like (woo) the wood “breathing” better with a nitro finish. Just like I know there is no such thing as “god,” I know this is magical thinking. These are all different plastics. I know the finish doesn’t affect tone in any...

I appreciate your thoughtful reply RickP.

Rationale for nitro over cellulose vs. poly?

Do we have it anywhere from the horse’s mouth (read: Paul) the reason for the switch from durable poly to gloopy, fragile, yellowing nitro? I realize the inquiry begs the question for some, but after 40 years of playing, I truly think tone is 70% amp, 25% pickups, 4% fingers, 1% everything else...

    HeadRush Gigboard v. 2.3

Like I said earlier, I have the FRFR, but it is mostly gathering dust. I’m using the DSL for tone having forsaken the amp/cab modeling in the Gigboard as inferior to the real Marshall tones. The Gigboard handles all of the effects and patches as well as channel switching on the amp.

    HeadRush Gigboard v. 2.3

I have the Van Halen and Pink Floyd packs. The rigs are decent. The IRs, not so much. I play heavy rock.

I have some of the Choptones IRs. IMHO they pretty much suck.

    HeadRush Gigboard v. 2.3

I have the FRFR 112, but the Marshall rig sounds better. I will give the amp modeling/FRFR credit for filling the room well. To hear the Marshall at its best I have to sit right in front of it. I prefer the built in-cab models in the Gigboard. I have bought a bunch of IRs from supposedly...

    HeadRush Gigboard v. 2.3

I love my Gigboard, but since I bought my DSL, I am only using it for effects. The amp and cab modeling are good, but not real Marshall good. With the four cable method, the Headrush makes a hell of a great effects rig though.

    Strap Recommendations for Eriza Verde

My favorite straps are from Greg Bennett at Franklin straps. They are very high quality. The link glove leather straps are the bomb, but those don’t come in the color you are thinking about. Maybe this in cognac: https://franklinstrap.com/product/jackson-hole-aged-leather-guitar-strap/

    All Hail The 85/15

As a long-time drooler and, finally, new PRS owner (2020 CE24) I have to say among the many features of this guitar I like (and one or two I don’t) is the pickups. I think I love them, actually. For reference my favorite pickups I own (in two guitars) are the Gibson Tony Iommi signature set...

Got my new CE24! Beautiful, but................

You could also mention the hit they are taking on internet forums like this in terms of their reputation. I’ve had disappointments that have been made right by the retailer and have sung their praises publicly as square dealers. You aren’t asking for anything unreasonable, but if they treat you...

    Introduce yourself!

Thanks for the welcome. I will indeed try to get some music posted sometime. Just last night I found the sweet spot on my DSL for the 85/15s. Nasty awesomeness!

    Introduce yourself!

Ooh. The Hanneman has a Kahler. I was tempted to one of those despite a distaste for Slayer, but those position markers turned me off. I would love to see a PRS Floyd model done properly with a Kahler, a much better system IMHO. I’m curious to see if the Herman Li-PRS partnership will lead to a...

    Introduce yourself!

Late to this party! I’ve been hankering for a PRS for many years and finally pulled the trigger. Check the profile pic. My NTM 2020 CE24 in TGSB is pretty much my ideal guitar-from-Maryland, which BTW, so am I, though I’m living on the fun side of the Potomac these days. I play mostly heavy rock...
