I'd recommend Less Gain / More Volume (I used to find myself always cranking the amount of overdrive and you can just disappear with that approach ...) and also think about EQ - try and position yourself differently in the mix. Also - the guitar / settings. Other guy on a Les Paul or similar...
Such a nice looking cab - so classy. I know Cornford used to use solid pine for "anything with a speaker in it" (i.e. cabs and combos) but ply (albeit high-quality ply) for heads. The new Victory Amps give you a choice of solid or ply wood cabs, with the ply being slightly less expensive...
Cool video - and evidence that Lee is finally, dangerously close to pronouncing 'Mira' correctly! :) I still want to see a semi-hollow Starla, though ...
I got my new amp from Andertons and they were great: even managed to haggle some money off when I didn't get quite what I was hoping for in...
Three P90s a Klon(e) and a Bogner: nice!
I've recently downsized my gig board - dropped two overdrives off and using the natural drive of my new Majesty amp as a base. Keeping it all on the PT-2, though. I could squeeze the remaining pedals on a smaller board but I like having plenty of space...
Studios are awesome guitars. Thomann had a couple of killer deals on NOS ones a while back (all gone at my last check) but I would have one today if I hadn't got an even better deal on my Paul's Guitar.
I dunno, you use one superlative and everyone get's all excited ... ;)
I guess fact that I A/B'd the SE with an SC58 could have affected my thoughts a little but my reasons for noticing a difference were:
- SE neck shape felt more 'run of the mill' with none of the subtle V or rolled edges...
I spent time with a Core Line SC58 and SE 245 recently. The SE was nice enough but you could feel and (crucially) hear the difference - it was really quite jarring to go back to the SE after playing the Core model.
I also spent some time demoing my new amp with an S2 Mira recently. That...
Looks sweet! I too have had issues with "muddiness" from the McCarty pickups so I went looking for one with other pups and wound up with 245s in my McCarty II: a little more midrange than something like a 57/08 or Mules but I love 'em. Reckon yours will sound pretty good with the Mules...
I can heartily recommend checking out Tone King. I tried a Sky King (twin channel fender-esque with dual attenuator controls) and a Majesty/Royalist (single channel Marshall-esque with attenuator) recently. Both epic sounding amps - but the Marshall tone was what I was after so went home with...
