I just recently went on a quest to buy my first PRS guitar... I read up about the SE the S2 because a full blown PRS was out of my price range. I liked the idea that the S2's body/neck was built here in the USA. I figured the electronics weren't as important and could be replaced if needed...
As I understand it, one of the reasons Strats sound as they do is due to the pickups being mounted on the pick guard. That PRS looks about as close to a Strat as your going to get... but then you do need that wammy bar to really complete things. You say you can potentially pick these up cheap...
Ah... actually, Guitar Center does have a PRS S2 Custom 24 with 57/08's in it... I was seriously considering one. They apparently got PRS to make some just for GC, they only come in a color called 'Sapphire Smokeburst', the color and the fact that it has 57/08s in it, are exclusive to Guitar...
So, I wonder who this Scott S. is, presumably someone who does or did work at PRS and had something to do with various guitars that might have been special orders or something like that. I also am curious about what the 'FA' is after Scott S.

That's what I was kind of thinking or wondering about. From what I can tell, the Satin models were indeed introduced in 2006, apparently after some Satin versions of the 20th anniversary models sold well.
Here for the first time as a owner of a 2006 Standard 24 vintage cherry, satin finish... been and admirer of PRS guitars every since I first saw David Grissom playing one when he was playing with Joe Ely at the Blind Pig Ann Arbor Michigan, back in the late 80s.
