PRS has a great rep for having stable tuning. Mine was not from the beginning. It was also breaking brand new strings. (thumb screw issues) Once I blocked the trem and with PRS's help I set it up according to specs the tuning improved. It still goes out very easily. Again mostly the top three...
BTW I've already made a tentative appointment for this procedure at The Lutherie Shop in Des Moines. My American Deluxe Strat has an Earvana nut and has for 18 years. I sold the Fender neck it came with and had Warmouth build a Strat neck out of Paduch wood with a 24 3/4 scale (which adds...
That’s cool. Someone told me to yank up on the bar and it might correct. It worked......... sometimes, but should a person have to do that? Especially not me because in 50 plus years of playing I’ve never been enamored with the sound of a tremolo. Now it’s rock solid. I love playing it. The 11’s...
I just wanted to update you all on my very interesting journey with the patented floating tremolo! PRS support gave me very specific and clear instructions on how to "deck" the bridge. I did that very carefully. I played like that for a few days and it was very stable as far as the tuning goes...
Well for better or worse (hope not) I set that bridge down on the body. I followed instructions from PRS and it wasn’t too bad. I’m also going to drop a piece of hardwood in the cavity for more stability and sound ( maybe ) it’s funny that I had to screw the bridge screws down all the way, and...
I don't think you're off base at all. I've actually thought about that I've been loath to make any changes. Now I'm seriously thinking I'll either put in the block of wood, or deck the bridge or both! I don't use the trem anyway.
yes I know you're right. They are known for that and other things....... however according to my searches it seems to be pretty common with this floating bridge. You can tune this (w/ strobe tuner) and not even play, and two seconds later it's all wonky! One video from PRS that I watched said...
thanks Bill, tech support sent me pretty good instructions on how to do it. They don't mention the block of wood in any other context than me sending it to them. I might do both! I'll let you know how it goes!
hello again Bill. I've been emailing back and forth with PRS tech support. They say that THEY could block the trem with a piece of hardwood or if I didn't want to ship it to them I could "deck" the trem by tightening the screws on the claw and then, I think turning those 6 screws on the top of...
that's great info. My strings however are properly stretched. The issue is with the trem. I don't even have the bar in, and just playing causes strings to jump to the sharp side. Almost no problems going flat. When it goes sharp the intonation is also off. So either the trem was not set up right...
