Combo amp questions.... H, Custom 20, Sonzera 20, etc...

I installed the Accutronics 8AB3C1B, Long Decay, 3-Spring reverb tank and confirmed that it's a great drop-in replacement for the OEM Ruby Tubes (RRVS3AB2C1B). As expected, the reverb is less subtle with the with the Accutronics 8AB3C1B. I was concerned that it may go too far the other way and...

Combo amp questions.... H, Custom 20, Sonzera 20, etc...

Tones as heard on the Slayer South of Heaven album, on the Pantera Vulgar Display of Power album, and somewhere near the halfway point of most Tool songs.

Combo amp questions.... H, Custom 20, Sonzera 20, etc...

I use my Sonzera 20 every day. I mostly play blues and use the clean channel with a good compressor and slight transparent overdrive pedals in front and a JHS little black box in the loop at about 75% to tame the volume because I'm at home. A little black box effects the tone of some amps, but...

CE 24 Neck Pickup Height Adj Screws

I ended up doing as @gush mentioned above, got standard 3-48 1-1/4" humbucker screws and cut 1/8" off with clippers. It worked really well, and now I can lower both pickups equally. Get a few extra in-case you gouge or bend one on the first try. Regarding keeping the CE24 in tune, I had the...

    2021 CE 24 special Run with 57 08 pickups

I played my 2016 CE 24 for 5 years with 85/15 pickups. They are great pickups. The clarity is insanely good. However, I've been into the more classic blues and jazz tones lately and the 85/15 are so damn hot that I couldn't get them where I wanted them. I tried adjusting the volume knob and...

    Ce24 replacement pickups

Replaced the 58/15 pickups on my CE-24 with 57/08 pickups and it worked perfectly on the first try. Why? Because I love the CE24 neck, but I want vintage tone. Yes, I am feelin’ lucky and please don’t shoot. Other than the leap of faith in using partial information from sketchy internet...

    Replacing 85/15 S with 57/08 - wiring question

Replaced the 58/15 pickups on my CE-24 with 57/08 pickups and it worked perfectly on the first try. Why? Because I love the CE24 neck, but I want vintage tone. Yes, I am feelin’ lucky and please don’t shoot. Other than the leap of faith in using partial information from sketchy internet...

    MT15 Replacement Power Tube Selection

Update: I chose to replace the Ruby tubes with TAD 6L6WGC-STR (small bottle 6L6). I chose the TAD because, it is a highly-available alternative with specs that seem to closely match the Ruby tubes. The TAD tubes cost a little more than the cheapest alternative, and are far less expensive that...

Difference between Mannmade 2000NOS and 2040 Vibrato Bridge

This is really interesting. I had no idea. However, now that I understand the difference between brass alloys for instruments, it makes sense that I love the "warmer and mellower tone" resonating from the 2000NOS combined with the 85/15 pickups and bolt-on maple neck. I can understand why...

Difference between Mannmade 2000NOS and 2040 Vibrato Bridge

I immediately replaced the MIK PRS bridge on my 2016 CE24 with a 2000NOS and the difference is night and day. I've never used a MannMade 2-peice, but the 2000NOS transformed my low-end core model from something pretty good to something magnificent.

    MT15 Replacement Power Tube Selection

I have seen other threads and comments about MT15 effects loop noise. I use the effects loop every day for years and never noticed any noise. In response to your question, I unplugged my effects loop as a quick test, and found that there is a tiny hum with the effects loop connected, but...

    MT15 Replacement Power Tube Selection

Lately I play blues jazz and country, clean with compression, reverb, delay, and sometimes a little transparent overdrive on a 1x12 with a Jensen alnico. However, sometimes when I have the house to myself, I crank it to 11 and play anything from classic hard rock to 90's rock to progressive...

    MT15 Replacement Power Tube Selection

Wow. I love this! You must have a bigger brain than me because the thought adding speakers to this conversation blows my mind. I just swapped my V30's for alnicos, and this whole thing is entirely too much :)

    MT15 Replacement Power Tube Selection

I think you are correct. There was no audible issue with the Ruby tubes. In fact, they still sound fantastic. I did notice the bias readings start to drift apart and I assume that means the Ruby tubes may have an issue soon. Maybe that's a bad assumption. Regardless, I swapped the Ruby...
