Ease of use and stability. The strings are not slipping; the tuners are just not up to what I'd prefer. I've owned a LOT of PRS guitars over the years (for those who do not know me) but the stock vintage style tuners on PRS are not my favorite.

Headstock thickness: That is what I was assuming would be the overarching issue beyond drilling holes; but didn't know. The information isn't available 'out there' according to my Google-fu skills.

I have a great guitar here; but the tuners on these are 'okay' at best. I am not really caught up in the Kluson look as much as I want rock solid tuning stability and ease of use.

I'm jumping back into the PRS Singlecut 'thing' with a 01' Singlecut that will have the stock 7's in them. My 01 PRS Artist Quilt - back in the day - had the 7's and I dug them. How do I like the 7's nowadays? Ask me after next Tuesday. ;)

I run FRFR direct to FOH, so a poweramp won't be on my personal shopping list. However, there are a lot of options out there now at various price points for guys running a more conventional traditional route.

I still love the winged tuners and have them on my PRS guitar.
But, there is no question that a higher ratio tuner - like the Phase II tuners - makes tuning faster and more precise. To me, more than any learning curve (I can change strings on my PRS guitars in well under 5 minutes total to...
I like her - every interview she's friendly, articulate, smart and funny. I like her playing and my band covers one of her songs that I don't hate playing. Nothing wrong with any of it.
I'm a TonePro's fan, user, owner and slappy.
I feel they are the best solution to locking your intonation and yes - in most cases actually increase sustain. Just a common sense upgrade IMHO. YMMV.
