    LP tone

Billy Gibbons on the first 4 ZZ top albums, Mick Taylor (especially the live '69/70/71), Dickey Betts and Duane Allman, Eric Clapton Bluesbreakers and early Cream, Michael Bloomfield, Toy Caldwell Marshall Tucker. So many great LP guitar tones to choose from.

    What’s a Custom 22 like?

    Thanks guys!

    What’s a Custom 22 like?

My 1994 Custom 22 is a guitar that I got in trade. And when I got it, I hated it. I just couldn't get on with the Dragon I pickups. I tried to sell the guitar for a reasonable price, but no one would buy it. And funny thing, many other PRS guitars which were lesser in condition, or beauty of...

Apprehensive on buying a tube amp

A vote for the Super Champ head and cabinet. I have a Super Champ X2 combo in my studio (with a Celestion G10 speaker in it), and a lot of people love that little amp! And in that studio there is a hard wired AC15, a 1964 Deluxe Reverb, and many boutique amps (Clark, Victoria, Dirty Girl, etc)...

COVID has hit a member of the PRS community hard

I agree, one of my close friends got it and he’s pretty sick right now. I’m finally getting back to gigging pretty steadily in some safe venues where they are practicing social distancing. no one is closer than 10 feet to me, and everyone must wear masks, but I still worry and I pray I don’t get...

Swapped out the Allen Bradley 10k ohm Cermet pot for a 10k ohm CTS pot, because the Allen Bradley pot had a different feel (too loose) compared to the CTS pots, And I got new stainless steel knobs made by a company I found on ETSY called 490 Designs. With the CTS pots these heavy knobs have a...

    Is weight a deal breaker?

I had a Cherry Sunburst Les Paul Deluxe that was a MONSTER guitar. I wished I would have never sold it, but I had completely worn the frets down and I really didn't know any good repairman back then. Somebody offered me a ton of money for it, so being a broke full-time musician, I sold it. Mine...

    Is weight a deal breaker?

This guitar is the current heavy weight champ of my guitars 9.8lbs, but I NEVER gig with it, it's a lap guitar, although I do record with it... Here's a clip of it... https://soundcloud.com/daniel-weldon-1/seven-days-with-gibson-l5s-bob-dylan-cover

    Is weight a deal breaker?

I won't go over 9.5 lbs. I just sold a KILLER sounding R6 Gibson Historic reissue because it just killed my back to sling it too long. It was 10 lbs even! I replaced it with an 8.5 lb R4 and I really like playing it. Fortunately for me my 1994 Custom 22 is 8.2 lbs! Now that's a weight I can deal...

    What are your projects currently?

I finally got around to modding my Zemaitis. Originally I was going to do it on my 22 fret model, but I changed my mind, and did it on the 24 fret model. The mod is a onboard Germanium boost Rangemaster circuit, along with a G&L PTB tone circuit! Ran into a few problems along the way (user and...

First The Pickups, Now The Tuners (1994 Custom 22)

I agree, one of the reasons I did this was to see more of the headstock face. I wasn't familiar with that look, so I just I just checked it out. Looks nice. Did they ever do the writing in regular pearl?

First The Pickups, Now The Tuners (1994 Custom 22)

You guys crack me up, it's just a set of tuners! Which work far better "FOR ME", that those pointy, ugly, contraptions, that covered up a lot of the nice looking mahogany on the headstock face!

First The Pickups, Now The Tuners (1994 Custom 22)

Not for me anyway :) Thank You! If I knew that to begin with I might have went that way, but I saw this set on reverb and I figured with my Dremel tool it would take less than 10 minutes to mod them to work :) And they were reasonably priced! I keep all the original parts :) Thank You!
