Ever tried mixing diff.brand-same type power tubes?

Mixing different brands of the same spec power tubes (i.e., two totally different 6L6GC) is perfectly fine as long as the bias is closely matched. I wouldn’t want to run one too hot or too cold. Preamp tubes don’t need to be matched.

Does wood affect the amplified tone of an electric guitar

Yeah I like to stir the pot. Here’s another one. Why do you need electric when you’ve got an acoustic? Billy Strings tonight at the Frost.

    Not according to this guy:

    Effect of weight on tone....

Derek Trucks says light wood is the best and I will not argue with him about tone.

    That Age Thing...

Oh hey and Les, I forgot to add, a rolling stone gathers no moss.

    That Age Thing...

“It’s better to burn out than to fade away.” That’s the Rock ‘n’ Roll mantra, right? I don’t know. Neil Young is still working too and he ain’t young now. Is he still singing that tune? I’m going to keep moving. The rest is noise.

Were your parents into rock music?

I saw Living Colour on the very first Lollapooza tour in 1991 at Irvine Meadows Amphitheater. That was a rocking good time. I later read that Kurt Cobain and and Dave Grohl were in the audience at that same show because they were in L.A. recording Nevermind at the time. Double checked and...

Were your parents into rock music?

Wouldn’t surprise me if my uncle gave it to my dad to try to turn him onto it. It had to have been given to them by someone. I should ask my mom. They weren’t into Hendrix but they weren’t especially passionate about music generally. Certainly not like me. Seems like me and my uncles got the...

Were your parents into rock music?

My parents had a small and lackluster album collection. They were more into late 50's/early 60's pop music than rock. Stuff like the Kingston Trio. I do recall my dad was really into Jim Croce. [Edit to add: almost forgot. They were Neil Diamond fans. And they had some old light country...

Talent. Is it Really 60% Nature, 40% Nurture, Or What?

I think natural talent tends to beat out nurture. Some of the best musicians have had very little nurturing. In my case, I have quite an easy facility with writing (words, not music). I have a much harder time crafting musical ideas and I get stuck in ruts musically. I have a lousy singing...

    NGD McCarty HB II AP

I’ve already figured out where my arm is going to wear down the nitro on the body. But I think this particular guitar might look even better with some playing wear on it. I know a lot of people would be tempted to lock this up or hang it in a display, but I bought it because I wanted a guitar...

    NGD McCarty HB II AP

It’s easy to love. I can’t get over what a slick player this is. It’s a lithe guitar and sounds like pure gold. I bought it for the feel and the tone, but you can’t beat the looks either. I hate to say something has it all, but damn you Paul Smith, this really has it all.
