New Silver Sky - First Impression/Tone and Buzz?

Mine had a slight hump between the nut and 5th or 6th fret that required a skillful truss rod adjustment. This hump and a nut that was a fair bit lower than spec were the problems I had fixed. If you haven't measured string height at the first fret, worth a look.

New Silver Sky - First Impression/Tone and Buzz?

I finally go my SS set up properly to spec. I needed a new nut. I didn't even think to look at that at first.

A Question about Silver Sky Nuts

This guitar has been a challenge. I found another tech that I'll take the guitar to once I get the nuts.

A Question about Silver Sky Nuts

Thanks for responding. The nut slots are definitely too low. The A to high E strings are touching the first fret when I depress the third. Same for the method you suggested above. Only the G has a very light buzz when open, with relief at about .008" so I never thought to check string height at...

A Question about Silver Sky Nuts

I recently discovered that my nut is well below spec causing some buzz when I pluck harder on some of the open strings. I have some ideas why but won't go into that here. I'm wondering if an owner or two would do me a favour and measure your gap at the first fret, low and high E, and let me know...

    Silver Sky Fret Buzz

Someone suggested just loosening the screws and then tightening again, working diagonally. i've had to keep tweaking. My relief now is about .012 and acton on the low E at the 12th, just over 5/64.

    Silver Sky Fret Buzz

Wow! Same thing for me, though I didn't see misalignment. I took off the neck to see if there were any issues and when I put it back on, the low E and A buzz was mostly gone.

If your guitar has travelled to get to you, you might need to check the neck.

Makes sense...odd that I've never heard that suggestion before.

If your guitar has travelled to get to you, you might need to check the neck.

I recently bought an SS that was shipped across the country to my door. For the first week or so I was very frustrated not being able to get rid of fret buzz on my low E and A, especially near the nut. Had it set up and still the buzz. Not knowing what to do next I took the neck off to see if...

    Silver Sky Fret Buzz

Yes, the buzzing was audible on the low E and A even with fairly high action and relief. What's interesting is that pretty much all of this audible buzz disappeared after taking the neck off and putting it on again. Perhaps the screws were too loose or too tight on the neckplate? I'm thinking...

Questions About My Silver Sky's Neck....

Interesting to note that after putting the neck back on, a touch less fret buzz where I had a problem, on the low E and A, lower frets. Perhaps the screws were on a bit tight.....

Questions About My Silver Sky's Neck....

Thanks for these responses. I took the neck off to see if a shim had been added and thought neck angle might be an issue. I've read that PRS has sent out new SSs with shims. I'll look into adjusting the tremolo. I couldn't get the pics to take. They were of the heel so not needed now given the...

Questions About My Silver Sky's Neck....

I'm also wondering why the neck joint has a hole in the middle and what the arrow means. Thanks. (Don't know how to shrink the photos!)
