Multi-guitar band, cant hear self, turn down or up?

In my experience, guitar players that are not used to playing in a 2+ guitar band tend to struggle with the stomp pretty regularly. The last serious band I played with had a "lead" guitarist that was used to himself, bass, and drums - that's it. So when I came in as 2nd guitarist (or in his...

PRS Wish List for 2015 - Electric Guitars

SE or at least S2 with Piezo. I've seen GraphTech equipped guitars well under $1K, I'd like to see PRS compete at that price point.

    SE Angelus Custom - discontinued?

    Congrats x2 then!

    SE Angelus Custom - discontinued?

Nothing wrong with my custom. My guess would be limitations on supply of wood used. Perhaps supply down on the rosewood sides/back used on custom vs. mahogany on the standard.

    Best PRS dealer

For me, the best dealer is the one that listens to you. I really don't like all the hype about the newest - coolest - best'est thing they 'just got in!' I just want to know if they have what I'm looking for, or can help me narrow down what I'm looking for, without trying to push something they...

AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd accused of trying to hire hit-man, arrange deaths

When I first saw that I wondered, was he just singing Dirty Deeds, and they thought he was serious? Amazing the things we humans do.

    Great loss. Jack Bruce.

Sad sad news. When I started playing bass for a band several years ago, I bought a Warwick fretless 4 string after seeing him tear it up on one. I managed well enough, but no where even a fraction of what he could do. He was a huge inspiration. 2014 has been a very cruel year for great musicians.

SUGGESTION... for Mr. Paul Reed Smith

I don't think it's really piling on, it's really that ridiculous of an idea that's generating this response. Pickup selection is so particular to the person buying the guitar I can't see how anything can be labeled "Top Notch". I know people that don't like 59/09's and think 57/08's are the...

First, oldest memories of wanting to play music

I was speaking to my mother the other day, and mentioned something of my childhood. It got me thinking a bit about the oldest memory I have from childhood, and the first memory I have of wanting to play music. The oldest actually surprised my family because I was so young they didn't believe me...

    Non-PRS Instruments that surprised you

Bottom of the line Parker PDF35. I had to sell off my P22 to fund a home project over the summer and I really missed the piezo. Out of curiosity, I picked up this thing and was amazed at how well it was built. The stock pups are pretty limited, no coil tap, so just the straight HB tones - which...

things only a guitar player can say with a straight face?

The two that haunted me through my late teens/early twenties auditioning 2nd guitarists: "I play much better after a couple beers" "What key is it in? I'll just make something up"

Need Some Advice on my First PRS - How Important are "10" Tops?

I think the questions may be posed a bit off base. Just because it's a 10-top, doesn't mean it automatically looks awesome. The 10 is just the percentage of dead spots in the grain. I've seen many non-10's that look better than the 10-top sitting right next to it - at least to my taste...

    Cover Tune Aggravation

I think it's really all about how you create. I usually have a bit of a reiterative approach when recording music. So, if I were in your shoes, I'd do both as close as I could get to the source you're using. Then I'd spend weeks comparing and fiddling around until I came up with 3rd version that...

Need to file my nut? And how?

An even more annoying problem with larger string gauges is when you start breaking strings at the tuning post. That's most often due to binding at the nut slot, holding the string in place. When you tune the string, all the tension builds up between the post and the nut rather than transferring...
