SE 245S pickups (wiring adventures with a ZM)

Thanks chicagoslim, enjoyed the pics and how you’re chasing your sound with these guitars!

SE 245S pickups (wiring adventures with a ZM)

The SE 245S set in my Zach Meyers always tended to make the neck pickup output much stronger than the bridge, even though the bridge is said to have considerably more winds. (FYI the general reason for this is that strings move a much greater distance back and forth at the neck and far smaller...

Recommended SE Standard 24 Truss Rod Wrench

You are looking for a 7mm hex wrench with the shortest head you can find. Most of the cheaper ones online are too long to fit in the routed space. Often their product photos can be inaccurate too on eBay and Amazon.

Zach Myers semihollow the wrong choice for blues

I get you xjbebop. If you were looking for those classic vintage LP type sounds, Clapton, Green, even Page, the stock Myers is not greatly suited to go there. No doubt some players could find its voice useful. Constructive comments are the best kind.

    245S Pickup parallel wiring

Update. I parallel wired the bridge pickup as well. So far, I dig it! It allows a more balanced and distinct middle position sound (both pickups on) and whilst it thinned the bridge too, some of that comes back when you raise the pickup and lower the pole pieces. I can always back the tone off a...

    245S Pickup parallel wiring

The best I could deduce from inspection and a multimeter test is: The RED is North Start and hence the hot output (goes direct to Vol lug) The thicker BLACK is South Start and shield together (goes to ground) The GREEN and WHITE are taped together for series. Multimeter suggests: GREEN is North...

Zach Myers semihollow the wrong choice for blues

Interesting to hear your comment. I'm someone who plays a lot of blues but also classic rock, soul, funk and so on. I like traditional guitar tones and play more Fender style guitars than Gibson, but have an 80s Ibanez AS-200 for my 335ish tones and an 80s Yamaha SF-500 with Phat Cat P90s fitted...

    245S Pickup parallel wiring

Hi. I have a recent stock SE Zach Myers semi. I'm interested in trying the neck humbucker coils wired parallel instead of series. I've read and heard I could expect that to brighten/thin the tone a little and also drop the output a bit, and that sounds good to me personally. It has the green and...

    Just a crazy thought

Hi Sergio, you sound like you've spent some time looking at PRS wiring. I'm interested in wiring the neck pickup of my Zach Myers semi in Parallel. I've heard that's likely to brighten it a little and drop the output a bit, both of which would suit me fine. Would you know what to do with the...

Zach Myers semihollow the wrong choice for blues

Hi Allessandro. I'm interested in wiring my ZM neck pickup in parallel to try it out. I've been told that's likely to brighten a little and slightly reduce output, both of which would suit me fine. I believe this involves taking the green and white wires (which are paired at the moment) and...
