My McCarty has ruined me for wanting to play my other guitars

I love my McCarty, but don't go getting rid of your other guitars. I tend to go back and forth with what my ear prefers. Sometimes I don't play my strat or tele for a bit and then I pick them up and the single coils sound awesome. Other times they just don't do it for me and I want my PRS or LP...

    Pickups for 2003 McCarty

I've got a Duncan Alnico II Pro in the neck and a 59/Custom Hybrid in the bridge in my MC58. I took out the 57/08s it came with. Big improvement to my ears. I really like them in this guitar.

    NGD: 2012 McCarty 58!

6.2 lbs??? Does it feel like a toy? I mean that as an honest question. Even at 7.2, mine feels a bit strange. I guess it's just what you're used to...

    NGD: 2012 McCarty 58!

Thanks! BTW, is there a way to embed imgur images? I thought there way but it won't accept them either as images or as media. I know the guitar porn is a big part of this site (or is for me anyway) and I don't want to disappoint.

    NGD: 2012 McCarty 58!

The long wait just ended and my new guitar arrived! Picked up a gently used 2012 McCarty 58 in fire red burst. I never fully bonded with my CE24 and I had been casually looking around at some of the stoptail and hardtail PRS models and when this one caught my eye I had to go for it. There aren't...

Help me love my CE 24

Hi guys. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I decided to try a bunch of different stuff and I'm in a good place now I think. I swapped back in the 85/15s to give them another listen and managed to make it all work. They are bright, but I can tame bright pretty easily. The honk was my biggest...

Choice of Hard Cases? Limited CE24

I have a Gator case that I picked up for about $75 on Amazon, if I recall. It's not super rugged, but I'm just using it for around town. Best part is, my CE fits it perfectly.

Help me love my CE 24

I notice that DiMarzio rates the mids really high on the tone zone. Is it more low mids that are featured in that pickup? Not honky at all?

Help me love my CE 24

I think ours are related, although mine is more orange. :)

Help me love my CE 24

Yes, the Duncans are uncovered. I always thought that putting covers on cut some of the presence rather than upper mids, but I've never done a test to know for sure. You're right, my rig does accentuate those frequencies, which I'm sure is part of the issue. Thing is, I love my amp in general...

Help me love my CE 24

Hey PRS fanatics. I thought this would be the place to go for some advice. I have a 2016 CE 24. Love the look, love the weight, love the neck and how it plays. Don't love the tone right now. I don't know if it's the byproduct of the light weight and thin body, but the bridge pickup has a...

    2017 Custom 24 - 85/15 Pickup Challenges

OK, update that I wanted to share. Turns out, some of the mid honk was due to the fact that the power tubes on my Friedman were on their last legs. Got new tubes biased up and my bass is back in full. :) But I think I'm still going to stick with the A2Ps for now. I like the warmth I get from...

    2017 Custom 24 - 85/15 Pickup Challenges

I just replaced the 85/15s in my CE 24. Used them for over a year before making the change, but I finally decided to swap in an old set of Duncan Alnico 2 Pros that I just took out of my LP when my wife got me a set of the Slash pickups for the LP. I'm quite a bit happier with the A2Ps. The...

    CE24 Owners: tightness?

Look up any of the number of string tension calculators that are available on the web. The variables that affect tension are scale length, string gauge, and string pitch. I'd guess that the construction of the string matters some too. Tuners don't matter. Springs don't matter, except if they...

    CE24 Owners: tightness?

I disagree that added length beyond the saddle would change perceived tension by any significant amount. Possible if you made a huge change as you referenced, but one trem block to another that would still fit in the same guitar is negligible. As to Atomic's point about trem springs, the...
