Can anyone school me on what finishes were in use from different years? I know V12 was introduced somewhere around 2011-12 but what came before that and what came before that? Other than the DGT's, all models have had the same finish correct?

Is it just me or does the Customs have a higher voice than the McCarty? Kind of tighter in the bass and not as deep. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what is the cause? The tremolo, the lower hog/maple ratio, thinner neck. All of the above? I'm getting a PRS in 2020 but i'm in the...

So i was wondering, Do you need certain pickups that are made for this kind of wiring? As far as i know the only one that prs makes for this system is 408 pu, 85/15MT, 58/15MT. So yeah, could you hook up the 408 system to a pair of dimarzios or whatever, if you wanted?

So alot of prsi with ebony boards are not labeled as "gaboon ebony" but simply "ebony". How come? Do prs use different species or are only 100% jet black boards called gaboon, as alot of boards have small hints of gray stripes?

Worse might've been a bad term. All i meant was if 90% of people prefers mahogany necks then it might be something to consider (especially if it saves you quite alot of money). Also, PRS said maple necks don't ring that long. Might've just been the blanks and when it's put in a finished guitar...

Alright, great. The guitar im looking at is maple/ebony. It's beautiful but has a higher price than a regular custom. So i wouldn't wanna spend that much more if the general consensus is that it's a worse guitar.

Oh btw, have you noticed any decrease in sustain vs the mahogany/rosewood combo?

Yeah, i much prefer the feel of ebony aswell. Sounds like the maple ebony combo should work fine. I'm definitely going for a custom 22 since i prefer the neck pickup to be moved further from the bridge.
