LOL PRS is a bit of cult and a bit like wine tasting. There is no way this makes any difference. Purely voodoo marketing and aesthetics, which is fine but you have to accept it as such.
Part of it is the "guitars for dentists" trope. Core PRS are pricey and a bit "precious" with their birds and ornate flames.
Also I can see where Paul may rub some the wrong way as he's bit of showman and salesman talking things like "tonewood", the exposed brass and the clink of nuts stuff...
The “pre-2017” only applies to the core models. It will fit in any S2. I got the 2040. Can’t tell you it’s a huge improvement but I liked the look of polished saddles and chassis better than the stock. Feels smoother so I’d imagine it balances and returns to zero better.
Installation is a...
I tried out one of the PRS adjustable bridges. Returned it. Really saw no change in tone or intonation. I think they look a bit busy (particularly with the brass colored saddles) and there is something elegant and artful about the old one-piece stoptail. I went back to stock too. File under...
I have one satin guitar (non-PRS) if you look at it the wrong way you'll leave a scratch and its impossible to buff out/spot fix. I will eventually sand the whole thing down a bit and apply a clear coat for protection.
Exactly! There's a cool animation somewhere that explains this but yes the Neck pickup on a 24 fret sits further down and therefore has a slightly more trebily sound. I've heard that the "harmonic" not being directly over the pick up (as it it is in most 22 fret guitars) deprives these a bit...
Sounds like you go your heart set on buying new. Get a Custom 22. The CU24 neck pickup placement will leaving you going back to your Gibsons. I'd go used CU22 (trem) 2011-2015 pref with one with 5708s. GIve the newer 8515 pickups a listen before you buy.
ugh can’t win. Wanted to give my 06 CU22 a makeover by slapping on some hybrid hardware. The hybrid tuners were not available as a complete pack but I was able to pickup 3 tuners from West Street and three from an authorized PRS dealer.
First of all the “phase II” sold today are not a direct...
Its arrived! Still getting used to these unique pickups. Position 4 is gnarly..sure its got the almost "glassy". "quacky" sort of sound but there something unique here. Finding the bridge a little icepickish may need to adjust the heights a bit but it already came in fairly low. One sort of...
My pickup covers from a 2006 model are old and peeling (D2s). I figure they are potted. How much of a PITA is it to replace them or am I better off just trying to sell them and buying new ones?
