I think some of it is that we're (people in general) so used to certain sounds in recordings. It's the same way for bass. There are lots of engineers that can seat a P or J bass really easily in a mix and less so with some of the boutique instruments. Other people just can't find the right voice...

It's a modded Jet City JCA50H. It's nothing outwardly special, but I tried it on a whim when amp shopping a few years back and it blew me away... especially at the price point. If it had been ruined I probably would have gone for a Soldano Hot Rod 50.

Barry was quite good. I just finished Season 1. I think Season 2 comes out shortly. Finally started watching True Detective. I've heard Season 2 isn't worth it, but 1 and 3 are great. I also started watching Crashing. Pretty good 3 episodes in.
