Try rolling the volume down to 8. This works wonders on one of my guitars that needs the treble taming better than rolling off the tone. If it works you could measure the change of resistance it took to get you there, solder in a resistor and then go back to 10.
I got a nice S2 single cut version for $750, and threw some Fralin P92s in it. I was mostly looking for a decent host for the pickups, didn’t expect to find one that nice at that price.
I’m not that far into exploring all the tones, but so far I’m enjoying my new Zexcoil Tribuckers. 3 voicings, all hum canceling:

The singles and PAF are both great imo. Haven’t found the p90 settings that I love yet.
So I was not in love with the stock pickups. I swapped them out for a set of Zexcoil Tribuckers. I replaced the volume and tone with stacked CTS pots, and replaced the mini toggle with 3-way mini toggles.
I like these pickups a lot more than stock so far. Time will tell how much.

I have a 34” scale custom built swamp ash bass that’s 6 pounds 6 ounces. I’m told that that kind of super light resonant swamp ash is almost impossible to get now. My bass is about 15 years old.
