Have you tried getting a hold of PRS and giving them a shot at fixing/replacing your amp. Another plus to a small and light amp is it’s easier to ship.
Well, that level of hiss does not sound normal...I would contact PRS for help. It could be one or more of the preamp tubes causing excessive noise...if you have some known good preamp tubes laying around, you might swap some out to isolate where the noise is coming from. I think there is a tube...
Yup, sounds like normal gain hiss...you might be able to quiet it down a bit with carefully selected preamp tubes, but it will only be a nominal change. You will need to put some sort of noise gate in the effects loop if you want to tame the high gain hiss. This is normal...as long as it isn't...
Where is the gain knob set at...I would say that is normal high gain hiss...the only way to get that quiet is to use a noise gate. Completely normal for a high gain amp tube amp...
I really like the matching cab, it's well made, sounds great and is easy to haul around for gigs. If you like 2X12 cabs, Splawn makes some great ones with your speakers of choice.
Sounds like your pickups/guitar is causing the squeal...super hot pickups and high gain levels/volume are going to cause squealing...make sure your pickups are securely mounted (so they can't vibrate) and you're probably going to have to lower the pickup height a bit if they are high output, and...
All I know, is that I when I engage the boost on the treble know, it increases the volume of the clean channel substantially, and gives it a bit more gain, for less pristine clean sound...I like it.
I like the clean channel, but I use it with the boost engaged to give it more hair and headroom. For crunch, or more classic rock tones, I roll down my guitars volume...works for me.
I've never played an Archon, but I gigged my MT15 and matching cab for the first time this Saturday (loud alt rock band), and it sounded great and more than loud enough...I could have easily played the gig in the half power mode. Great, portable amp...
Oh, and for anyone interested, I also have a Marshall DSL40C combo amp that I have used for light setup gigs...the Marshall cover for the DSL40C fits the MT15 cabinet quite well...maybe a 1/4 inch too long, but it works great.
