Vela finishes - Satin or gloss? Tone or feel/resonance difference?

Hopefully this will work. These are the ones I liked best. I had a handful of others as well, but didn't think that they were as good as these. These are all from Quickguards OK, I'll try this: Tobacco Leaf https://drive.google.com/file/d/13a5YxnpUTedUHuObbjKIG9Eawz4iStZ8/view?usp=sharing...

Vela finishes - Satin or gloss? Tone or feel/resonance difference?

This isn't helping. lol. I just went to their site. They have a number that might look really good! I'll have to see if you can get samples like you can from WD. The black-copper and black-gold sparkle look good on this guitar from my photoshop mockups.

Vela finishes - Satin or gloss? Tone or feel/resonance difference?

Gotcha. That was standard MAP pricing, so I figured it was ok. :( Lesson learned.

Vela finishes - Satin or gloss? Tone or feel/resonance difference?

Oh, 1 thing I didn't think about until perusing the threads xjbebop posted is the neck finish. The gloss Velas have the gloss neck finish, where the satin ones have a satin neck finish. I much prefer a satin neck. Most of my recent guitar purchases have been raw roasted maple or raw wenge...

Vela finishes - Satin or gloss? Tone or feel/resonance difference?

Thanks for all the input so far guys! I am guessing that the gloss is significantly higher due mainly to the extra labor involved in making the gloss finish then? $1550 vs $1220 (new). $330, or a 25% price increase is nothing to sneeze at...

Vela finishes - Satin or gloss? Tone or feel/resonance difference?

Anyone played both the semi-hollow satin finishes and the semi-hollow gloss finishes and notice any difference in how it feels/vibrates or how it sounds? I've been leaning toward the satin ones, but a gloss one caught my eye. It's a fairly big price difference between the two, however, with...

Changing pu´s on a PRS, is it a sin?

The Classic 57 and 57+ were actually designed for Gibson by Tom Holmes, IIRC. Holmes's own PAF style pickups run in the $650/pair these days. Lots of people treat them (Gibson Classic 57/57+) as boutique pickups and put them in lots of really nice, non-Gibson guitars. Maybe knowing that, you...

    Will 408s fit in a p90 route?

Yeah I saw those as regular P90 replacements (like the noiseless Lollars), but didn't see any HB in a P90 size there. Supposedly Zhangbucker has them too, but I couldn't find them on their website. I would probably ask over at Harmonic Designs too since what I'm going after is essentially the...

    Will 408s fit in a p90 route?

Yeah, I'm thinking (after looking) that if I do find either a 408n or a 57/08 NF, it's going to run $200 or more just for the pup. Then there's the whole getting it in right. I just need to find the right DiMarzio of the 3 or get a custom SD (they can put any of their humbuckers in a P90 in...

    Will 408s fit in a p90 route?

D'oh! I didn't even specify which one! Yes, I meant the neck, the 408n. I believe that the 408n is in the treble position in the Brent Mason and the Paul's Guitar. Anyway, thanks so much for measuring! So it seems that the 408n would fit in the P90 cavity, but it would be a little small...

    Will 408s fit in a p90 route?

I've been looking at a few different types of PRSi lately. Now I'm curious about the 3x P90 models. Honestly, if it were purely for me and "my music" I would just go for a straight P90 model. Leave all 3 as P90s. Love them. However, this will need to be used in a cover band scenario as well...

Korina - McCarty vs Santana - differences in tone?

OK! :) What are the tonal differences between the KL-33 and the KL-1812s They have the same wood and the same pickups. Both are 24 fret. But one (KL-33) is Gibson scale, and the McCarty is 25" scale. Also it seems to me that the KL-33 Santana one actually has more body mass?

Korina - McCarty vs Santana - differences in tone?

I've never been a PRS guy. I always thought that they were over-priced, esp. 10-tops (as compared to other manufacturers). But you know, a decade or two, and needs can change opinions. Used prices are absolutely reasonable, in fact *surprisingly* so. So, working on a cover band situation...
