    PRS 408 pickup output

Removing that cap did not affect the balanced output. There is still the treble bleed cap on the volume pot, the .033uF tone cap and the 1.1k and 2.2k resistors for the tapped humbucker. Just like on the updated 408 wiring diagram.

    PRS 408 pickup output

It certainly didn't jive for me. I don't think it was messed up but delivered like that from the factory and I bought it new from a reputable store. PRS must have realised that cap was a bad idea because it's gone on the latest updated diagram. The tech said it sucked out all the tone. Anyway...

    PRS 408 pickup output

Well, I can tell you what it does. It kills the guitar's dynamics and tone. I see yours has one too. I'd strongly recommend removing it and replace it with a simple wire. You can always put it back if you prefer having it in but I doubt you would want that. PRS customer support wasn't helpful at...

    PRS 408 pickup output

Just got back from the tech and problem solved! It was that big yellow capacitor between the switch and the volume pot. The tech took it out and soldered in a wire and - voilà - now the pickups measure 9.45k (bridge) and 8.47k (neck). And most important of all: the guitar came alive. Before it...

    PRS 408 pickup output

Interesting. I have a DiMarzio Transition set in another of my guitars and that is also described as "flat" in terms of frequencies but it's a very responsive and juicy pickup, whereas my 408 is very -- here I go again -- "lifeless". No sustain, no harmonics, really terrible. Maybe I just got a...

Thanks, that's very kind of you. I sent the pics a moment ago.

    PRS 408 pickup output

Thanks, but I don‘t have photobucket or anything like that.

    PRS 408 pickup output

There‘s definitely something wrong with mine. I wish I could post the gut shots I made earlier.

    PRS 408 pickup output

I've just checked the cavity and compared it to the 408 wiring diagram. There are some deviations. For example, in addition to the treble bleed cap and the tone cap, there is a big fat yellow capacitor between the volume pot and the pickup switch. That is not on the diagram. Does anybody know...

    PRS 408 pickup output

I've had this guitar for nine years and never played it because it just doesn't sound good. Lifeless is the best term to describe it. Unplugged it sounds great but when I plug it in the pickups work but there are no harmonics, no note bloom, no feedback. Just, well, lifeless. All those years I...

    PRS 408 pickup output

Will do, and take it to a tech to check for cold solder joints.

    PRS 408 pickup output

I‘ll take the guitar to a tech next week. I‘ll certainly let you know what the problem is.

    PRS 408 pickup output

Thanks for responding. Really appreciate that. I‘ve had the guitar for several years but never played it because it‘s so lifeless. I always thought it‘s because it has a rosewood neck. It‘s only recently when I thought of measuring the pickups and the resistance is 0Ω. The voltmeter ist set...

    PRS 408 pickup output

I have a PRS 408 which sounds rather lifeless. The pickups produce a sound but there are no harmonics and no note bloom. I tried to measure the output of the pickups with a voltmeter and there's nothing. My other humbucker guitars have the usual output of 8-9k but the 408 produce nothing. Could...

    DGT 2019 or 2020?

I'm in the market to get my first DGT. Things have boiled down to a 2019 with neck binding and a 2020 without the binding. I know that the 2020 has that new nitro over cellulose (cab) finish but it's not clear what finish the 2019 has. Is it poly, V12, or nitro? I has, as I said, the neck...
