The one thing I would change, I did, pickups. Otherwise, honestly, it almost plays too easy. Especially when switching from a vintage style Strat, which I do frequently during shows.
Oh yeah, you have to do what works for you. I rarely switch pickups more than once during any solo and to be honest, switching at all during solos is something I only do occasionally. If you work that way it’s easy to see why you wouldn’t want to be making constant adjustments. I’d probably...
It’d be very surprising if they don’t. I believe the usual strategy is to wait until the current model sales slow down, then goose the market with the new version. That’s exactly what they did with the USA SS.
To me the subject is a little strange because I adjust the tone on the fly, along with the volume. And while most performing guitarists seem to do this also, I get that some have their own idiosyncrasies. I’ve worked with players who rarely touch the knobs and hit pedals to get what they want...
If you’ve ever tried to “cure” a guitar’s sound with pickups, and noticed it still has the same fundamental character beneath what those pickups are coloring, you’d never ask that question.
Haven’t had that problem with any PRS I’ve bought used, even SE, but the Strat I bought in 1970 and the 79 Les Paul I bought in the 80s we’re literally the last Fenders and Gibsons I bought that didn’t need to go to my guy for fretwork, and there’ve been a lot!
PRS does an incredible job...
I built a guitar in the early 90s where I made my own nut from a blank, using the nut slotting files from Stewmac. Over the years, that investment has paid off big time. PRS generally does a good job, but the vast majority of factory guitars come with a nut slotted too high and it affects the...
Hmm. Interesting question for me because I’ve bought four different SEs recently to review and only kept the Silver Sky. All were nice, I just can’t keep everything I buy for review. So at present, only one out of a dozen. I did own a Core Singlecut back in the early 2000s but that one didn’t...
Mine stick up a little on the plain strings, thankfully it doesn’t bother me. I would guess those are metric, but probably not an unusual size. You can actually buy metric grub screws on Amazon but you’ll need to know what size. They have them specifically for guitar so you shouldn’t need any...
I recently bought an SE Custom 24-08 to review and was very impressed. Nearly as impressed as I was with the SE Silver Sky I also bought for review. I was so impressed with that one I’ve decided to keep it. Flawless.
