I own a real US Archon 50 head ( not the new SE Indonesian version). Yes the 50 does seem to have more mids and a little more clarity at sane volume levels. I personally prefer the tone of the 50. I'm more a fan of PRS Amps than the guitars BTW mostly playing Carvin Kiesel guitars through PRS...
Great questions all! Wish I had some gut shot photos loaded some where to a hosting site to post of my real Archon 50. Will bet this new one is PCB and much more like my MT 15 internally than my Archon is.
To answer one question yes both amps run 6 preamp tubes 4 true preamp stages the V5 loop...
The new SE version of the Archon at $600 less $ and the same name. Owning both a MT 15 and a Archon head I was very interested in the clips of the new one.
What I hear in all of the clips sounds much more to my ear like a MT 15 than a real Archon. Dryer more compressed and lacking that special...
Whats going on with PRS Amps? I'm a big fan of the amps now own a MT 15 that stays on stage at my Church and and a Archon 50 head is my play out rig as of now but noting is showing but the Imports and the DG on your site for 21. I prefer my Carvin Kiesel Guitars to PRS ( own both brands BTW)...
Spot on Drew. Sadly now that Jeff is at the helm with Kiesel they are also doing the same. Building more super expensive works of art forgetting the real world working player who needs a really high quality instrument that won't break the bank and will hold up to a real world working players...
Both the super smooth feel and the lack of maintenance. You can get the feel with nickle for a short time but if your a working player it doesn't last. . 6 months and then Nickle begins to noticeably degrade.
Example would be my 2007 Royal blue Brazilian board Pau bird Custom 24 vs my 2009...
I'm now absolutely solid on Stainless on any new purchase. I own 11 have 3 with Stainless and those 3 are my main players. With nickle I will dess every 3 or so years and refret ever 10 or so. I own several that i have had over 20 and have to rotate them to keep fret wear down. The Stainless...
This is one of the major reasons i will not buy a new PRS guitar. I do own a couple core guitars and own and play mostly PRS AMPS but play mostly Carvin Kiesel Guitars. One of the reasons is I absolutely will never buy another new guitar without Stainless frets. I love the 25 scale been mostly...
The effects driver is the last tube in the line to the left looking at the front of the chassis or V5 not V6. Thought the same thing as the chart here is saying but it's wrong. Have both a MT 15 and a Archon the Tube functions are the same in both but the Archon lists the PI as V5 and the...
Thanks so the pre amp configuration is really exactly the same as it is with the MT 15 except they reverse what they call V 5 and V6 between the 2 amps and that's what I suspected it to be.Still in the same physical slots though but on the MT 15 the effects driver at the end of the front row is...
This is my MT-15 clean side boost pulled and running a Keeler Push OD. Didn't think it was to shabby for a smokey blues rock tone!
This the crunch side of the MT 15 amp only except for a touch of verb in the loop
Been playing around with a Sweet 16 head in a local shop and got some killer light to mid breakup Blues Tones with it.
Am seriously looking at picking up a C head in the future for the type tones you are talking. Own a Archon 50 head and a MT 15 now.
Think the C head is the better classic rock...
Can the MT pull off a smooth singing solo tone? ABSOLUTELY IT CAN! Will it sound like a MK II C? Nope but it has a really smooth singing solo voice that's for sure!! I own a pair of Boogies, an old one year only 1991 Carvin X50B Hot Rod Mod Head a Zinky Blue Velvet and a pair of PRS heads a MT...
