It's both actually. Ebony feels so much faster and more slick. Plus, the black coloring is better looking to me. I did consider dying the board but it's brown and the board edges under the finish would remain that color while the playing surface would be ebonized. I figured that would look cheap...
That seems logical enough. The only caveat is that they didn't make my guitar with an ebony board. I might take your first suggestion and continue to wait for PRS to get back to doing custom and mod work. They're probably the only ones that I'd trust to do it.
I've been kicking around the idea of having an ebony fingerboard installed on one (maybe 2) of my PRS. I emailed the PTC a little over a year ago as to the possibilities of getting it done. They said they could do it but, when I followed up a couple of months later, they said that they couldn't...
Maybe a stupid question but, what if a bunch of us got together and placed an order for a certain amount of these special run guitars? Would PRS build them in a limited run? Like the PRS Forum LTD. series. Don't the guys on the Seymour Duncan forum do that a lot?
Here's my order;
original 1980...
Yes, they're a bit out there now, price wise. I played one when they first came out. I wasn't hip to the significance of the model, only that it was a limited edition. It has haunted my dreams since. There's a West St. Limited for sale close to me for a reasonable price. Only thing is that is a...
I don't want to believe that it would be super expensive. I'd want a mahogany/mahogany West St. w/dots and an ebony fingerboard.
And I agree 100% about the availability at any given time. One may come up for sale but, it may not be exactly "the one".
This seems to be my "issue". My two dream PRS guitars are a KL-33 and a West St. "Standard". I look for them all the time. I've even gotten to the point that I've entertained the feasibility of doing PS builds. I think I'm just nervous about the pricing even through they appear, at least to me...
Ha, thanks! One of my dream PRS is a West St. Standard (?). I'm not sure if that's the correct name. I guess it's a Westie without the figured top and dragon inlay. I've had a couple of near misses on those. I LOVE that body style without the "bling".
Hello everyone!
New member here. After years of contemplating a PRS, I finally bit the bullet and bought an older model: a 1998 Standard 22. So far, so good. It's such a well built guitar! I've always been interested in PRS guitars, typically any Santana shaped model such as KL-33's, Westies...
