Thinking of Buying a 594

Shawn,
Thanks for the pickup info, and the porn. :)

When you spec'd that guitar, how did you request the finish? Just a McCarty Burst, or did you request some specific attributes that achieved that exact result?
What I really love about that finish is the fact that the cherry red does not get too dark on the edges, and the center of the burst is not too bright. Perfect!

The color is called "Solana Burst", which is available when ordering an Artist Package. I did a thread on the construction process, if you're interested in seeing it.

Geez...

I looked up Solana burst and there's quite a range of results. Yours has a really nice range of shade from center on out. I see examples that have virtually no burst at all.

Thanks for the link. I'll go do some reading...

I’m gonna have nightmares about WL and AP tonight, worrying about how a guitar can be both!;)

Sorry guys, for being so cheeky!

@Shawn@PRS most importantly yours falls into that hallowed category of “employee guitar” (well deserved for service to a great cause):D

And where have we landed on a new thread for Michael’s 30 year guitar?!;)

You know that it’s time you became the forum “pusher man” again :):)

Well, what I learned looking into PRS' Solana Burst is that it really does range from virtually no "burst" to something like Shawn's - which at the moment is my high-water mark for most beautiful finish I've seen yet. I saw somewhere on this forum a player mentioning a "teardrop" burst pattern, which seems to align with Shawn's. Is that actually a thing?

I was planning on shopping at the Experience in a few months, as there are no shortage of great instruments to choose from. But, I am not sure I'd find something like Shawn's Solana Burst SC594 just sitting there on a stand - but who knows. Maybe I'll have to make an order.

Well, I've been through that entire thread. What an awesome journey. Great comments from the forumites along the way. Congrats on a beautiful guitar!

I am looking toward the Experience this year for a possible purchase. If not, I'll order. Solana and McCarty Bursts are at the top of my list.

Nice, I'm guessing all the smiles suggest a pleasant experience?

How'd you like the neck, and the controls?

I liked the neck a lot, the two I tried both had a nice chunky feel which was most obvious at the nut end and slimming down a little towards the body. The controls were great and the option of splitting the coils really offers a wide range of tones.

They feel great and sound great. When PRS came out with the Soapbar model I was so hooked on the vibe of the guitar after living with it a short time, I bought another one with humbuckers within a few weeks.

The passion for this model seems to get stronger once you have one. That’s actually a very good reason to own a guitar!

I totally agree with Les. The honeymoon never really ends with these.

I bought mine as a kind of dream guitar that will be with me for life, or what's left of it. I couldn't have chosen more wisely, it scratches every itch I've ever had for an electric guitar :)

IT'S DESIGNED FOR ONE THING AND ONE THING ONLY: TONE. AND PLAYABILITY. AND SATISFACTION. AND TO BE JOINED BY A SECOND 594. AND...

We have identical chairs and I have the P90 cousin to your sunburst :D

My “thinking” was exactly the same. I just got mine within the last couple weeks so I can’t speak to the honeymoon, but it scratches all of my itches as well. I’m old enough and easy enough on my gear these days that this might be the last electric guitar I ever buy. Or not, but it’s a possibility...

Every time I think all my guitar itches are scratched, PRS beings out the poison ivy, and I start itching all over again.

I’ve seen my doctor, but it hasn’t helped, because like all doctors, he’s a PRS player. ;)
