Hi all-

I'd like to add two push pull tone pots to my SC58 and SC245 to split the pickup coils (5708s). I'm going to be following the wiring diagram for the current SC245. I'll also need a 1.1k and 2.2k resistors as well. Would the best source of this be PTC?

Before I mod though, does anyone have any experience splitting 5708s? How do they sound split? I have a DGT and I love the sound split. I also love the sound of the 5708s. Not sure split though.

Thx-

Thanks. Exactly what I'm looking to do. I see the pots on the PRS website. I don't see the resistors. Anyone know what type of resistors are used?

I used carbon film resistors, 0.25W, 5%, 1.1K resp. 2.2K, on a couple of my guitars with 59/09 and 85/15 pickups. The price was about 4 cent per resistor,

Try Ebay or any other seller of electronic parts. As I'm from Germany, my dealer won't probably be the best source for you.

I use my 57/08s split all the time in my Custom 25th and Sunburst 22, but there's no option to split on my Hollowbody SC... For some reason, I was under the impression that not all 57/08 pickups could be split... ie: some 57/08s have the tap out from one coil and some simply do not, and cannot be wired up for split coil use...

I don't remember the exact model, but I had a PRS guitar with pickups which had a braided nickel wire and also a single white wire for coil spitting.

The white wires rest wound-up in the pickup caves, only the nickel wires led to the pots, so when looking under the backplate I was thinking of not having a split coil option. What a surprise when I looked in the pickup caves one day!

The 57/08's that came with my HBII don't have a white wire, so no splitting for me.
Hard to get a photo of with my phone:

My luthier, who used to work for PRS, did a rewire so mine tap in my old CE 24. Bitchin sound! ? Try Philtone Music in Baltimore. He's good enough for Jimmy Herring.

That's a long way from Melbourne :)
I'm either case, the 57/08's now live in my Les Paul and my HB has a set of BKP Mule's, so no need for me to split the 57/08 - I just thought I'd share a photo while I had them out last week
