SC 594 Birthday Bash in the Windy City!

Thanks!

Yeah, we invited Carlos, but he said he didn't have any SC 594's to bring, we told him not to come. He said something about some gold 24 fret SC 245, but I told him this was strictly a 594 Experience.

:)

That's kind of a shame, because when he comes over to my place, he brings his whole band, and they're really great players. Lots of fun to jam with.

"Les, Carlos' band wouldn't even fit in your studio."

"OK. Some of them have to play in the bathroom."

"Not buying it. You just play along with their recordings, isn't that true? Isn't that what you really mean when you say Carlos comes over with his band. You're lying to cover your tracks."

[sob] "Yes, damn you Perry Mason, it's true!" [breaks down, and is escorted off the witness stand in cuffs].

Sounds like a Great Time! Happy 50th Pete!

Yeah! Thanks for a Bangin'! time, Pete!

I'm so glad I finally got to meet Pete, Brian, and Alan, I can't believe it had taken so long. Truly the nicest and most generous guys, and Mike is my homie already so, it was really rad to find out the other guys are even cooler than they are online.

Damn, son... Not only does it look nicer in-person but, it's everything you want a single-cutaway guitar to sound like, and even more ergonomic and cozy feelin' than the typical "type". I used to be one of those "if you want it to sound like a Les Paul then just get a Les Paul" kinda choads. Now I've changed my mind, it does get better than the real thing. So my PRS SC GAS got a tad bit

Happy Birthday Pete!

So, I know Pete has weighed in on SC594 vs DC594 and others have asked. Spurred on by these posts, just curious with your recent smorgasbord of 594's if you guys feel the same way about the DC's? Or is the inherent structural difference of a SC really the only way to get "that" sound.

I'm torn between the weight and ergonomics of the DC, along with the better selection of WL DC runs currrently out there - vs that extra grunt and tone of a Singlecut. How much difference do you guys feel there is?

The other guys can chime in as well. More thoughts from me - the DC 594 is a magnificent instrument. I played in a band (a great one!) from 2009 to 2015, and at that time I spent a lot of time practicing, rehearsing and gigging, all while playing standing up with the guitar on a strap. I can tell you without hesitation if I was still doing that right now, the DC would probably still be my #1, for the significant ergonomic benefit.

I am in a different place right now, where I play at home every day and night for the joy that it gives me to do so. In that context for me, the SC is what I am preferring right now, for the feel, the subtle difference in tone it provides. And for the vibe of the classic Singlecut.

IMO the tone difference is 5-10%, and just for that extra girth when wanted, for that classic SC tone. The DC is likely better for some tones, as well. The ergonomic benefit of the DC over the SC for ease of playing, upper fret access and lack of fatigue from a thinner and on average lighter guitar, let's call that 30%.

And yes, there is a heck of a lot wider range of great DC's available out there right now! It's almost as if a few people have been hogging on the good Singlecuts... ;)

Hope that helps!

Owning both models, I'd agree with everything Pete lays out here. The DC is really close to "that" sound, but the SC is there. It all comes down to how close you're trying to get. I love both, but if I had to only chose one, it would be a SC. Just a little beefier.

Great thread....I am sad the gold 24 fret singlecut wasn't welcomed as it is a fantastic guitar. ;)

I guess it all comes down to the trade-off you find more acceptable. The DC gets me the the closest I've ever been to That Sound while still keeping the classic PRS feel and ergonomics. It is definitely my guitar happy place lately.

I haven't played the SC594 yet, but if that shape and feel floats your boat, it's probably the way to go. I'm not at all in the market, but This One sent my GAS meter into the red. Gorgeous vintage finish and under 8 pounds! I wouldn't kick Pete's Rubleseat proto out of bed, either.

That one you mentioned is a beauty indeed! ^^^^^

Pete, Happy belated 50th! Sounds like a great time by all!

Skeeter, I have to chime in on 'that sound' - the DC absolutely can get there, you just need to order it with SC thickness! The DC ergonomics work best for me despite my undying love for the SC shape. My newest DC (Wildwood fatback DC594) totally gets there. I was lucky to find one used. Had Pete bought it first, who knows what would have happened to the world in that alternate reality? ;)

As all possibilities exist at the same time there are some realities where Pete has all of the prototype models and some where he has none. I suspect he's very happy with this reality ......

Thanks for the insight guys - didn't mean to hijack Pete's b-day thread. But this is helpful info.

I am assuming a DC with SC thickness is Private Stock only or was there a WL run like that? (I don't remember seeing one).

Hey Bogner! Good to hear from you over here.

Yes, that GOTM is killer! I had a Private Stock 24 Fret SC 245 just before the 594's came out, it was pretty cool. The Gold Leaf GOTM with a Trem, even cooler than the one I had!

Had that been the 594 Scale, I would have been all over it! :)

Wildwood did two Private Stock DC 594's with SC thickness, and yes that is only available in Private Stock. I was VERY close to snagging one of those! As well as the Singlecuts, those were 4 killer guitars Steve over there spec'ed!

Happy belated! I've been mostly absent this past week.
All good dudes there! Looks like it was blast for sure.
