I love the amp when it's played as it's designed, but to me, the sweetest tones are to be had on the gain channel with the channel volume set to around 1.

Yes, but if you play it all crazy-metal-like, tattoo sleeves automatically appear on your arms, your hair turns purple, and stands straight up. And nose rings happen, too.
