NGD...SC58 Artist

 Wow, what a beautiful instrument. I have to confess it's been stuck in my head all day...

Enjoy! I'd be very curious to know how you settle in together, if you're interested in reporting back.

Well I must say so far it has exceeded my expectations and presented a couple of surprises. The guitar came to me in near perfect condition except 1 ding the seller noted. I was able to fix this very easily with some micro-mesh and rubbing compound. You can barely see it now but you can't feel it at all. It never dented the wood but cracked the clear coat.

As far as the sound of the guitar all I say is wow....it is so smooth.... like butter. The setup came in REALLY low and buzzy. The previous owner must have wanted to only put the lightest pressure to fret a note. I had to crank the pickups up a lot as well. After I raised the action up to PRS specs ( i like mine around 75 thou on the low E @ the 12th and 60 thou on the high E @ the 12th ) I had to raise the pickups a LOT. I first thought the pickups were really low output but a few twists of the adjuster I got them up where they belong and MAN this thing SINGS.

I have 3 SE single cuts at the moment.... a ZM,245 Soapbar and a Bernie. This thing feels solid like the Bernie but very light like the ZM. It is so much more responsive to volume and tone changes it kind of surprised me. In a humbucker guitar I am not used to the tone and volume having such range. I took a peek at the wiring and it appears all stock...so it must be the pickups.

Also the 2 piece bridge is very easy to adjust and I would say it is easier than a conventional stop tail. Height adjustments were super easy to dial in. I also feel the bolted down tailpiece holding the strings provides a much more direct connection to the body...thus that might be why it feels like it has more sustain than my Bernie.

I have more time to spend with it and I haven't run any gain at all yet. I have only been playing clean with a few different amps in Amplitube. I will try and get it on the Custom 20 this week when the wife is out with the girls one night....and see what it can do.

More to come!

Steve

We gotta take a photo of your Artist 58 and my Artist SC together. Twin blonds, the forum deserves it!

Besides, my "H" through a 4x12 cab is just waiting for that. I've got your ear plugs so get your butt over here!

YES...we must do this!!! My in-laws are leaving at the end of the week....then I am free again to run around again without having to coordinate schedules.

One other thing....I noticed the brass was not that bright....so while changing strings I polished everything that had gotten dull. Pretty big difference.

More and better pictures to come.
Good work, she’s not gonna know what’s hit her!

So, n24re (Steve) and AP515 (Joseph) got together last night and jammed a little on the twin sisters. A golden blonde SC58 Artist Pack and a strawberry blonde 20th SC Artist Pack. Played through a PRS "H" and an SE50 into a 4x12 cab. Thought you might like a few photos.

BADA$$ TRIO

... Joseph is such a GOOD player and has the luxury of no neighbors in ear shot of his 4X12 cab!!!!
It's nice to have friends that overlook your MANY flubs. I don't gig anymore and it showed. #Loosing chops!:( He's right about the cab though. I turned it facing the wall and it still got louder than we could stand in the living room ... good times!:)

Awesomeness - both the guitars, and the jam!! Question, though...it may just be my eyes, but is the old SC smaller and shaped different than the other two?

I think it's the dark edges more than anything. The Gen 1 is heavier than the other two by quite a bit. I think the sizes are the same.

Sounds like a great time! Nice fiddles, by the way.

Also, n24re, I agree with your comments on the 2 piece bridge, having had several SCa of both types. It’s different tonally from the one piece. Just kind of a personal preference thing for me, they’re both outstanding.
