I love the veneer! Absolutely amazing quilted maple. The modifications aren´t accomplished yet. I still wait for the delivery of Schaller M6 locking tuners in ruthenium shade w/ ebony tuner buttons.
And I will replace the pickup rings, the switch tip and the backplate by ebony parts procured at Crazyparts in future.

Have you replaced the volume and tone knobs, or are they stock on the 2017 model? In case you changed them out, where can I get those? I'm getting my M. Holcomb SE in a couple of days!

Schaller backlocking tuners are a great update to an SE! Did this to all I had in the past.
Congrats.

The M6 required more effort to be installed than expected. The Schaller screws remained to be thinner than the genuine ones, therefore it was not possible to bolt the tuner tight on the headstock with them. Okay, then the original screws.
But the holes of Schaller housing needed to be extented a little bit to insert the PRS screws. Hail to the cordless scredriver! I pressed the screw bit into the hole and let it run a few rounds. Problem solved. After all tuners got that care I installed them.
I noticed that the tuner axes are a little shorter than the PRS´, maybe the pressure to the nut increases to a certain extent. I might take the guitar to a tech to optimize the nut slots if the tuning is not stable.
Notice of sadness: Schaller didn´t delliver as ordered. They forget the ebony tuner buttons. But they are expected to be shipped soon.

Therefore I only reached subordinate objective.

Sorry to hear that there obviously have been changes on one side or the other ;-(
Modified 5 or 6 SEs in the past with these tuners and "back than" they dropped right in with no mods whatsoever.
Good old times.

Backside of the headstock. The color of the tuners isn´t chrome, but ruthenium (which is nearly similar to black chrome).

Yesterday I had an appointment with my guitar tech because of maintaining the nut, intonantion and tuning stability. He did a great job (The guys who did that before I´m not convinced about that because the neck wasn´t set-up proper, the replacement nut aswell. Exchanging the tuners (lower axes than the standard SE tuners), all the problems have been enhanced.)

New nut:

Even the pups have been set-up (notice the bobbins):

If you want to compare two 25,5" scale guitars in Drop C by sound (both recorded approx. 3 month ago, the MH had - todays knowledge - the not sufficient prepared core nut and the aswell not proper adjusted neck):

Parker Fly Deluxe (1995): https://soundcloud.com/mr-513/parkerflydeluxe-demo

PRS SE Mark Holcomb (2017): https://soundcloud.com/mr-513/prsmarkholcombse-demo

Today - after professional care - I recorded a track with the "refurbished" MH: https://soundcloud.com/mr-513/song-wo-a-name

And a few more pics to show:

My thread has been taken over by the bogey.

Do I have to react by showing off Psalm 23 which has been engraved into a backplate of my Linus by my luthier? :)

Hey, I just noticed you did sound clips. Thanks for doing that. And I was going to request clean tones, then I heard them -- for about 5 seconds -- so thanks for the clean tones. Then I heard the next clip, and even on light distortion, you can hear the difference between the two guitars.

@Dusty Chalk,
Is there a need of real clean tone? Than I will record them for showing off the six sounds (Bass: HB and SC; Bass & Treble: HB and SC; Treble: HB and SC).

The above mentioned tracks have been recorded with my standard high gain setting. I only adjusted the actual drive by turning the volume knob.
Yesterday I recorded the same track (different start) with my Linus. The pickups remained SCs, I only switched between Bass and Treble - having different volume knobs Bass has been set to light crunch, Treble to high gain.

Today I'll take my 513 in SC for tracking that tune, and I will record clean MH tones.

Is there ever not? Otherwise you're listening to the sound of the amp (or dirt pedal or whatever). You can't really tell anything from fully fuzzed or distorted tones.

Wait, you have a 513 in singlecut? Or South Carolina? Or...other?

Ehm, this is my stockpile:

Okay, okay, the Epi LP CU belongs to my wife, but everything else is mine. My 513 is hanging between my Linus Custom Thinline (aka Honey Amber 5217) and my PRS SE Mark Holcomb.
