I can tell already, even after just getting my first Core model last week, that I’ll need to get one more, probably at the end of the year. In the meantime, which would be a good complement? In addition to the DGT, I have 2 LPs.

Criteria that needs to be met: Faded Whale Blue top, my new favorite color, double cut body. I’d prefer a maple neck but without needing to save up for a PS or WL or special run pricing. Also prefer trem over fixed, but I can be swayed with a compelling argument. 22 or 24 fret is ok, but I’m leaning away from a thin neck.

So, what fits? 408, 509, Custom but w/ pattern regular neck? Discontinued model? Something that will add a difference to round out what I have.

EDIT: I should add that a Floyd would be pretty cool, too.

Because this is the first time it’s happened to anyone, no doubt. :D

Absolutely. No one here has ever fallen down that slope. You're the unlucky first :D

Custom 24 would be a good one. Different from those you already have. Although, the 509 and 408 would both be considerably different as well. 509 would cover more sonic territory. Lots of choices, that's for sure.

Do how does getting a maple neck/board work? Do dealers request some in their orders? Are only a certain number made for distribution? Made by special request only or PS?

Dealers do Wood Library runs, which would be spec'd by the dealer, and is usually 10 guitars. That neck combo might be something they would spec. You could also go Artist Package where you work with a dealer on a special order. Similar to a PS, but not done by the PS team. If you're really interested in a maple neck/board machine, check out this thread.

Tosca got the ball rolling with Brian of Brian's Guitars. There are a few of us that committed up front, so Brian is going to move forward with it. Likely, these won't be completed until November/December. If it's something you'd be interested in you could be a deposit down, or wait until they hit Brian's store in the late fall. Send a PM to Tosca if you want to go the deposit route.

I will suggest you check out used listing on Reverb to see what is currently out there - there might be something that nails exactly what you have been considering. It is a little hard to filter for a maple neck, because "maple" and "neck" are also used in context separately. But if you start with a particular model, like "509", do a search on that keyword (once you have pre-filtered for Paul Reed Smith as manufacturer, of course).

ooh, or you could type in the color you want "Faded Whale Blue" (include the quotation marks to get the whole phrase). Then look visually for a maple neck/board - you might need scroll through the thumbnail images to see the neck (sometimes the primary image is close up of body).

I found these, look tasty, but might be outside your price range:

I would go for a different tonal range.
SAS often have maple neck (mine does and is super sweet) - tons of range, mostly outside of what you have.
Santana, though I don’t often see them maple
HB
I did consider the SAS. Not sure about the grain and colors I’ve seen. I’m pretty taken with the Faded Whale Blue and flame maple top. But who knows. The Santana is ruled out by 24 frets on a 24.5” scale. Good thoughts though.

That combination may take awhile to find but a faded whale blue custom 24 with a natural back and a matching flamed maple neck would be a very sweet addition to your DGT.

Seems you are headed down the slope :)
I predict in time your LPs will go to be replaced by 594s
You will need all the below models in time ( Just saying )

CU 24 or a Brushstroke 24
Santana
513 / 509
408 / Pauls Guitar
