Need a Strat played by a legend?

Nile Rodgers is auctioning off most of his collection (about 160 of his 200). No PRSes but some pretty cool stuff. https://www.christies.com/en/auction/auction-19986-nyr/browse-lots

Interesting discovery today re: coil split

You're probably right and transparency is a good way to describe it and something I hadn't thought about. That said, in my situation (a 135# senior citizen), the light weight of the Katana and the multiple programmable sounds, outweigh the admitted superior sounds of my 40+ lb. tube amp. But I...

Interesting discovery today re: coil split

I play mostly through a Boss Katana and after years of single sound tube amps, am loving all the tonal variations. One thing I noticed about my SE Mira is that, with the Katana, the only noticeable difference between the humbucker mode and split coil mode was volume. Didn't hear that...

Different - or no WOW factor?

The leader/lead guitarist of the band I'm in also has quite a guitar collection (he's a doctor) which includes 3 PRS plus a SS. He plays his American Standard Tele about 80% of the time! Go figure.

Bob Weir's 1994 Hollowbody for sale

His 1969 Tele showed up in my Google feed today. A bunch of Grateful Dead memorabilia is for sale including a lot of Weir's guitar collection. Not much is said about this one so it apparently never went on tour. You can get Garcia's 1960 Bassman for something over $16,000 (the current high...

    No more valves…..?

There's a name I haven't heard in 50 years! I had forgotten about them. I know I saw them but don't recall if they were from G.P. or not. Certainly from that side of town. Chicago is great (to visit). Our son lived there for 10 years so we'd go in every month or two for a play and dinner...

    No more valves…..?

My 25# Katana 50 was $240 (the 100w version is 32#). The 25 watt Fillmore is $1600. It was an easy choice for me. If you heard me play you'd understand why I wouldn't pay over 6x as much for the Boogie!

    No more valves…..?

When I was invited to join my son's band in June, I decided there was no way I was going to lug my 42# homemade (Marshall Plexi-style preamp with 2xEL84 power amp) upstairs, into and out of my car and back every couple of weeks. I bought a 25# Katana 50 and couldn't be happier (I'm not getting...

    No more valves…..?

Funny to find fellow former "Detroiters" here. I graduated from Grosse Pointe H.S. in 1966. I remember the riots well, a scary time. Haven't been in downtown Detroit for probably 15+ years (last time I went to an SAE exposition) and have lived in Indiana for 45 years so I may never get back.

Satin S2 owners, any issues with stands?

This happened to my Gibson Gospel reissue. Left it on the stand for months (maybe years) and one day noticed a fingerprint size area that looked like the finish had melted and I guess it had. Now I drape a piece of an old towel over the stand where the neck rests, regardless of the type of...

Hard case for the PRS Mira?

Hard to tell. Ask the seller. It does say free returns so that implies a no-risk purchase. Good luck.

My dream guitar is for sale. Do I buy it?

Your answer is in your post "The problem is I don't think buying this right now would be financially responsible for me." GAS is an addiction that drives people to make foolish financial decisions. You read about it every day on guitar gear forums, people selling gear to buy tires for the...

Hard case for the PRS Mira?

Mine measure about 38" overall, 13" wide at the lower bout and 17.5" long to the bass side horn. It will not fit in my G&L ASAT (Tele-style) case due to width and the neck joint heel.

PRS S2 or SE, not a hard choice for me

I just bought my first PRS, an SE Mira. I'm fortunate in that I could afford to buy pretty much anything in the PRS line. I chose the Mira because 1) it's light weight, 2) it looks cool (vintage cherry) and 3) it's totally fine for my needs. Had I bought an S2 or a Core, I'd be worried about...
