After doing exactly this, I was not able to reuse the clamps, sadly. Maybe if I'd had an infinite amount of time to work on it? But yeah, mine has a wire that droops into the lower F-hole, I hate it but haven't had a chance to fix it.

Once you get past the nerves, recording is super fun. It's hard work, but there's nothing else I get into like recording music. Everything else in life, there's always some part of my brain doing something else.

Yeah, you could do that if you found long enough strings. There was a boutiquey guitar company, I can't remember the name any more and the guy that ran it retired... they made 27" scale standard tuned guitars.
It's also possible to use laser cutting to cut fret slots that don't go all the way across the fretboard, eliminating the need for binding. I believe Kauer guitars does this.
