Jim Elston

At the age of 63 and following open heart surgery, I gained a first class honours degree in photography and was awarded the Christian Drane Memorial Prize. My PhD proposal gained me an unconditional offer.

I have been playing guitar for nearly 50 years and still play in a band, covering classic rock around the pubs and clubs. I have owned a huge number of guitars including two custom shop Gibson's (A '68 Les Paul Custom Tom Murphy and a Flying V custom fished in Jeff Beck's Oxblood colour) My favourite ever guitar was an Arbiter double cut Les Paul Junior in TV yellow which were factory fitted with a genuine Gibson P90. I used Marshall Half stacks for years, my last being a JVM 410H. I won't say that the Boss Katana is better, but it does its job very well and is considerably lighter. I remain disappointed with both Gibson's, considering what they cost, and I do not miss them, nor would I buy another.
