    Irritating bright guitar tone

I think it depends on which one you buy. Some fretboard cleaners are more solvent based (naphtha) for cleaning, some are white mineral oil based for more of a preservative / wood conditioner, some have no oil distillates at all and are plant based oils. Takes your pick I guess. I have a bottle...

    Irritating bright guitar tone

Update. The moisturiser killed my strings. I now use baby oil. Okay stop laughing. Seriously, it’s just white mineral oil. Same as string cleaner or lemon oil (lemon oil doesn’t come from lemons it’s just mineral oil with a lemon scent). So it doesn’t clog my strings or fingerboard. It should...

    Irritating bright guitar tone

As far as residue on hands I used a wet wipe (multiple packets all over the place with a 3 yo son in the house) to remove the excess and the change in tone was evident from the first note so it wasn’t residue tainting the strings.

    Irritating bright guitar tone

First post in ages Thought I would share this. I have suffered from overly bright guitar tone on occasion and always put it down to tubes degenerating or unstable power etc as nothing else had changed. Last few days it was unbearable and stopped me playing. Turns out, unbelievably, to be down to...

    Temperature changes

I mentioned this to my wife Tuesday. Had great tone all day. She said she thought the answer was obvious. Please enlighten me. She just smiled and said Happy Valves. So not one to argue with my wife, I’m far too experienced for that, I can officially say that the answer is the valves were happy.

What is 1 piece of gear you regret letting go of that is too expensive to replace now?

My Martin Clapton acoustic. Number 5029. Paid £2450 for it mid 1990s sold 2013 in a mad bout of depression for £500 less than it was worth. May yet buy another when my son is grown up a bit and is a little more gentle with stuff. I’m not into saying don’t touch.

    Temperature changes

My bunker is divided in two by a waist high wall. One side is air conditioned / heated the other side isn’t. The aircon side is where I am with all my stuff. The other side houses 3 different speaker cabs and the rest is storage space. I’ve noticed that when there’s been a particularly cold...

    New amp

Thanks. I love music so much. I very rarely have a day go by that I don’t play something either guitar, bass or piano. My almost 2 year old son is already playing single notes on piano and then singing the note at the correct pitch and he isn’t even talking yet ha ha.

    New amp

Back in 2016 when i was still able to ride but not take a passenger my wife passed her tests and we got her a Triumph 900. We did several great trips together including one abroad via the channel tunnel train. Last year the doc told me that my mri showed if I had an off (which I’ve never done...

Ah a real bike! Devoid of all the cumbersome electronics of todays models. I think I would have been on a Kawasaki GPz 550 black and orange or a GPX750 red and white around that time. My last bike a BMW1200 GS Rallye had a tft screen and more modes than I could work out and I still couldn’t...

My Dad was a professional musician and it’s thanks to him I have music in me. I was playing in his various bands (dance big band, military brass band and 5 piece) from my early teens but unfortunately I didn’t realise what it was all about back then and girls and motorcycles got in the way of a...

    New amp

That must be nice, I’m the only musician in my family. I’d love to be able to talk tones and amps and all things guitar with my in laws. My MIL is awesome though. I call her AMIL. She is always asking for tunes on piano or acoustic guitar when they are over. I have a couple of 0.5 w hand wired...

    New amp

Having been surprised at how good the Blackstar old HT dual and metal pedals sounded after I brought them out of storage I simply had to go for the HT1 amp as GuitarGuitar has them virtually half price. I love amps with simple controls and these have volume gain and tone. Can’t get much more...

Should They Stay Or Should They Go...

The amount of gear owned is directly proportional to happiness. Therefore keep it all. You wouldn’t want to sell your happiness would you?
