Thanks for your reply. I think your basic answer of the difference in the two wiring schemes is probably correct, so I'm going to change mine to the "Current" wiring. Whatever it does must be better or PRS wouldn't have changed it.
The Current shows the capacitor going from the middle lug of tone to middle lug of volume and ground going from outside lug of tone to the volume bottom. The Pre-2007 has capacitor going from outside lug of tone to outside lug of volume and ground going from middle lug of tone to the volume bottom.

I have a 2003 McCarty that I'm considering selling in order to buy a 408. Have any of you replaced your McCarty with a 408 (or bought one in addition to your McCarty) and had buyer's remorse? That is, did you prefer the McCarty to the 408?
