If you're not happy, don't spend the money. I personally can't bring myself to spend $4500 on a single instrument, no matter how beautiful. I spent $1700 on my top-end Buffet R13 clarinet, and about $2400 on my fanciest guitars. And even those felt like a huge splurge, usually spending about...
I might be the only person on earth that cares about this, but here is the final product as delivered from Sweetwater today. You can see that they had to plug and re-rout the studs for the bridge if you look REALLY closely but it's hard to see. Impossible from a distance. They also routed the...
So, just to follow up on this, I talked to my sales rep at Sweetwater, and the SE 594 bridge is compatible with the Graph Tech Ghost Tune-O-Matic style bridge made for 4-mm studs. The cost to have them do the work is kind of high at $600 + the cost of the parts (I could basically buy two SE 594s...
You probably need to play it in person, but I'm personally very sad when I think about the 594 Thinline I sold in 2021. I keep thinking about replacing it but the price is $300 or so higher today than it was back when I bought it so it always gives me pause. The Mahi Blue looks great though!
About a year ago, I had my trusted luthier put a Graph Tech Ghost piezo + Acoustiphonic preamp system into my CE24 Semi-hollow (the purple one in my avatar). It's amazing, and I play it all the time. I need acoustic tones sometimes, because our church just doesn't have a regular acoustic player...
John Mayer called it a "core" model when the SE version came out.
And the company published that video, so by extension, they're calling it a "Core" too.
I mean, whatever, it's $3000 for a bolt-on slab guitar with a mostly-Fender shape. It's kind of insane. I'll wait for the SE on the NF53...
PRS has really dumbed down what a "Core" model is, IMO. Silver Sky started that trend, and Fiore followed suit, and now this. A bolt-on neck with a slab body belongs in the CE family with CE pricing, IMO. Core used to mean amazing flamed maple tops with intricate carving. It's brand dilution and...
I always kind of thought of the Vela as a sort of Tele-alike, and the semi-hollow Vela as a Thinline Tele. Maybe I've got it wrong, but people online seem to be really excited. We'll find out how well it sells once it's shipping, I guess.
Maybe the Vela explains the NF-53's price. A Vela is...
I put one of the Mann Made intonatable wrap tail bridges on a 2017 SE Custom 22 Semi Hollow that had the non-intonatable wrap tail bridge. I have since passed the guitar on, but I felt like it helped with intonation, but didn't really change the sound or anything else.
My S2 Standard 22 also...
From the Andertons video on these guitars, it's fat and fatter. They said both of them are thicker than the Silver Sky, and that the MK version is slightly fatter than the standard.
I don't get why they're $2900, but that's OK. I like Teles but not enough to actually own one. Maybe that'll...
I had that exact issue on the purple CE24 SH in my avatar right after I got it in mid-2021. I ended up sending it to PRS for warranty work, and they ended up not only replacing the tone pot but also the static-y pickup.
Most of the time I leave SE tuners right where they are, as they're fine. It's these vintage style ones on this particular guitar that have been a problem.
At any rate, the Klusons arrived and all my problems went away. Since there's no tremolo, I didn't even bother with locking ones, just...
